about educational qualification

Hi, i have trained as a beautician and just got my HND in business management through distance learning. I am qualify to proceed to proceed with my application. i have received my notification letter in may and was waiting for the HND since it appears i do not qualify with the profession of a beautician. I am yet to sent my forms back, will that affect my chances?Also y case number is 2009AF67xxx.When may i be called for interview if i sent the forms?

The rules say that you need to be in a profession where you require atleast two years of training -- im not even so sure about that (ill check and come back to you later about that) so did you have that. what is a HND?? by the sound of it youll probably qualify but tell me more about it and then ill be able to tell. CHeck out the DOL page for more specifics.( DOL- dept of labor).

Hi, thank for your prompt reply.Yes i took me two years of training to qualify as a beautician and i have been working in such capacity ever since. But my training was done is a beauty saloon and not in a formal beautician school. However, i sad for the exams by the Association of Beauticians and Hairdressers (ABAH) and it is a body recognize in my country for providing vocational training. HND stands for Higher National Diploma.On starting the programme, you get a diploma after succesfully completing the first four modules, and you get a Higher National Diploma for the next four modules completed, then a Professional Diploma and finally and Advance Diploma.

it is irrelevant how long it took YOU to learn the profession. It only counts if the Department of States thinks it takes two years to learn this particular profession. You need to check this website.

Education or Work Experience: You must have EITHER a high school education or its equivalent, defined as successful completion of a 12-year course of elementary and secondary education; OR two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience to perform. The U.S. Department of Labor’s O*Net OnLine database will be used to determine qualifying work experience. For more information about qualifying work experience, see Frequently Asked Question #13. To qualify for a Diversity Visa on the basis of your work experience, you must, within the past five years, have two years of experience in an occupation that is designated as Job Zone 4 or 5, classified in a Specific Vocational Preparation (SVP) range of 7.0 or higher.

If you have a US equivalent High School degree, you should be fine. I think you can use WES (World Education Service) if you are not sure if your HS degree equates to a US High School degree. However, using the WES service will cost you money.
