I'm a 30yrs old female that lives in FL. I entered the states 5/00 (19yrs old), my first crime was petite theft it was a misdemeanor. My second offense (2005) was CC FRAUD of $5000 I got arrested coming back from a cruise, spent the night in jail. After court of Adjudication withheld, 3yrs probation. Now my GC expires 05/2012 and I'm worried about renewing it. I CANNOT afford a lawyer because I have no work, hard to get one when background check is in order. My mom said I can get a letter saying I need to appear in immigration court to get sent home. I'm from Jamaica and it would hurt to go back. I would appreciate some intake on this issue.

I don't really see you having much a problem renewing your card. I did it and I was fine. Trust me ... I was a bad boy ... Go for it, no point not going since the only downside would be you eventually falling out of status, which I think is worse.

The conviction for two or more CIMTs may result in deportation. There is a petty offense exception for ONE crime--it requires a legal analysis to determine if it applies. The definition of "conviction" would likely include the "adjudication withheld" treatment--it requires a legal analysis to determine if it qualifies or not.

CIMT = Crime Involving Moral Turpitude

All fraud and theft qualify as CIMTs.

Your particular situation is unlikely to result in deportation. Right now, you are of low priority for ICE to try to deport.

Stop committing crimes. One more of anything and you are outta here.
