A backup strategy - Canada is immigrant friendly

I don't think there's any debate the US is a much better place to live in. I'm a Canadian, born and raised and I don't ever want to move back to Canada for the reasons others have put forward (in comparison to the US). But if I couldn't be here, then Australia would be my next pick then Canada and doubt I would ever consider UK, while the weather in Canada is cold, the UK is just depressing.

So if I couldn't get my first two picks, i'd take Canada - Toronto is a pretty fun city and Calgary is great also and while wage opportunity, while not as good as the US isn't too bad. I only offer it is as suggestive backup strategy.

Hey pa_arora, I must tell you that the 180 day rule applied to me back in 2001. Someone posted here that the laws might have changed since then ? Back then I am pretty sure that was the case because the immigration officers told me that every single time I crossed that infamous border.
You might find useful call the immigration hotline to confirm and get an update.

Let me tell you my experience - mainly in the West Coast of Canada. Perhaps that was an isolated case, but I was in a job fair and clearly a couple of employers mentioned that they would prefer Canadian citizens instead of Permanent Residents. A group of PR folks who were applying to jobs with me got indignitated at that statement and we all walked away from the employer's booth right away. The job was unrelated to government of security cleareance requirements. When the economy isn't good, folks invent all type of lame excuses you can imagine. They "value" what they call Canadian experience. Go to hell with the Canadian experience. That's just because they don't have enough jobs.
Canada doesn't encourage entrepeneurship because the taxes are too high and the money collected goes in large part to encourage single moms to have kids and get a paycheck for it. Go to downtown and you will find several huge, dirty pubs and lots of healthy people drinking beer the entire day. They can do that because they get a paycheck sponsored by the ones who are working and paying high taxes. I think Canada could be a good idea for people who needs a "free ride" on social services.

For young and capable people - like most of us in this forum - I am not sure if it is a good place to live in. Officially 40% who landed in certain areas of Canada pack the bags and leave. I think that number is actually higher.

Anyone here from Toronto?

Just wanted to know the job scene in this city. Online searches do not show as many leads!

Also, why is Canada not as encouraging for entrepreneurs?
Thanks,

S.

Exclusionist Canada

The case scenario is similar in every province. Canada is one of the most pseudo-liberal countries I can think of. Less than a hundred years ago Canada openly followed Exclusionist poilicies(mainly for orientals and indians), take any internet link to the history of Komagata Maru and you can go through the entire story.

True, currently the Canadian immigration is open but they simply do not have enough decent paying jobs. Most current immigrants try their luck and savings and eventually go on to do lowest paid jobs and or/social benefits. Speak to any cab driver in big cities(east or west) and you will find all types of educated people from Indian subcontinant; I found PhDs, engineers, teachers and people holding technical diplomas!

Most of the members in this forum are in healthy working age, of what use is free medical care to us? Besides the free medical care is not much different from free medical care in India!

No other country gives you education and jobs with a chance to permanent settlement like United States. We all are worried about our permanent settlement due to the retrogression scenario, things may or may not change but one thing I have learned(from all this) is that the wise ones were already saving and building their bridges back to India.

Hey, you guys have missed your chance to be incredibly rich and spend the rest of your days in Bahamas surrounding by top model girls. A discrimination like mentioned above is absolutely illegal in Canada.

It is illegal, but there are nuances that are hard to catch and you learn once you are there.

Regarding Bahamas, you are totally correct. I already made a decision that if things don't work in the US, I had enough. Just go back to my home country and enjoy life. We have been through a very uncomfortable situation dealing with this greencard process. Unless your country is really problematic, I'd go back and settle there, enjoy relatives, etc.

It might be illegal (hell, of course iti is illegal, imagine "we support discrimination" written in the constitution!!!), but it is there. I have a lot of friends living there - all of them are telling same stories about how Canadians prefer Canadians, even if their qualification is lower than that of PR ppl...
