Hi!, my father has been a legal resident since 2006 and is now applying for citizenship. In 2010, he worked abroad for a period of 8 months with an international company. Before going there, he requested and got an I-327 permit. But, he is still worried that this may affect his chances of getting citizenship, Should he be worried? what should he do?

Thank you!

An I-327 only preserves GC, not continuous residence. The 8 months outside the US presumes a break in continuous residency unless he can prove otherwise by showing evidence of US residential ties (mortgage/rental for US home, utilities, US bank accounts, proof immediate family remained in US.

Thanks. So, if he shows proof of all of that he should still qualify?

Wait a minute. He WORKED abroad for an "international" company. Was the company at least 50.1% American owned? Working abroad for a foreign company is disruptive of residence for natz. HOWEVER, it happened in 2006 and lasted 8 months. Has at least 4 yrs and 1 day (or 2 yrs and 1 day if married to a USC) passed since he returned from that assignment? IF yes, the he has re-established eligibility via 8 CFR 316,5(c)(1)(ii) [the remedy in (ii) applies to both breaks described in both (i) and (ii)].
