6 year limit calculated on petition or visa?

I had my petition approved in Oct 2003, but I got my visa stamped and came to US in Feb 2005. So effectively I am in US since Feb 2005.

Is the limit of staying in US for 6 yrs calculated based on when the petition was issued or when I entered US ?

Any help will be appreciated.

The six years duration in your H1 is calculated by the actual time you physically stayed in side USA.
