485 Stranger Approval Notice - Clarification

I got my I-485 approved on Aug-24, I received an approval notice in the mail (08/29/2005). It states as follows

In processing your case we have reached the point where we need you to make an appointment to go to one of our application support center to have some additional biometrics (fingerprint, phot and signature) taken.

Call customer sercice and etc.

I thought after I-485 approval, the passport needs to get stamped and, the physical card will be mailed.

I am wondering to know, if this is a new process or is it an error or is it not required to get passport stamped anymore

Please share any information you may have regarding this.

----------------------It is new process at ASC they will take your photo, fingerprint,signature and your Card will be sent directly to you from the service center

Thank you popovarosi and ginnu.

I went to ASC without any appointment, as they started this newly, first they were also confused, but later they agreed to do code-2 biometrics for me. It appears this is newly kept in place and, my attorney said, I can still go for stamping with that letter.

I just took a chance to go there without any appointment, luckily the ASC was not crowded.

(LUD changes, getting a stamp...)
Can you tell me where did you apply for I 485?

I applied with Vermont Service Center (I-485)
My LUD has changed, after completing the bio-metrics, but the status message is still the same.

"Current Status:

Your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status was received on April 6, 2005. We mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is taking between 850 and 900 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete."

Was your last FP 15 or more months before?

What is your online status message when your received approval notice ? did it change to card ordered after biometrics ? thanks,
