485 RFE: Is using the "enclosed" envelope critical?

NSC emailed me on Jun 21 informing that they have sent an RFE on Jun 20. I still haven't received the physical letter, though my attorney got it within a few days. I am assuming my copy of the RFE is lost. However, my attorney emailed me a scanned copy (NSC requires additional proof of marriage.)

The RFE itself is not a problem but it mentions -- "Please use the enclosed envelope to mail additional evidence request back to the office".

My question is - if I don't want to have my attorney respond to the RFE and want to mail the evidence to NSC myself, can I send it in any envelope as long as I attach a copy of the RFE, or do I necessarily have to use the envelope they enclosed with the RFE? Not sure what's special about the 'enclosed' envelope!

Would appreciate input from anyone with similar experience.

Thanks.

It probably has a barcode or other encoding to allow them to reliably link the RFE back to your file. This ensures your case doesn't get denied because they lose track of the response. Ask the attorney for the envelope.

I have the similar problem though my trouble is that the envelop is too damn small to fit everything I want to send back.

I looked inside the envelop and there is a bar code strip with the receipt number on it.
However, I think you only have to return the copy of the RFE itself instead of the envelop.

I plan to use a large envelop and put the smaller one in there.

Same problem

Since the original mail was missing, I requested and received a copy of the RFE in which the envelope wasn't there.

Called Customer Service and they told it is fine. Just make sure on the top of the envelope you write" Response for RFE : EAC : xxx-xxx-xxx ".

Hope that helps.

There is no problem, I didn't use the envelop to send my 485 RFE because the 485 RFE was sent to my lawyer instead of myself (my lawyer just for 140, and I did 485 by myself), and my lawyer mailed me the letter without the envelop, so I just put the RFE letter on the first page with other stuff, and days later I saw LUD changed and it said that we got your .......
Hope this does some help.

Thanks!

Thanks for your replies - definitely puts my mind at ease.

Will make sure I write 'Response to RFE' and my receipt number on top of the envelope.
