485 or CP

Hello, I non-concurrently filed 140 last october. With all the problems I have been reading here, I am in two minds, 485 or CP? Why dont people prefer CP instead especially EB1s (when it is current)?
Further, if I wait to file 485 untill I hear for my 140, will my filing priority date for 485 will be my 140 receipt date or (to be) filed 485 receipt date?

Consular processing. My lawyer advised against it because you have no recourse at the consulate. Here in the US you can do things like motion to reconsider and administrative appeal, and even go to a federal court. At the consulate you are at the mercy of a consular officer.
