To answer your question .. the reason of the denial is very important. "longgc" is one member whose 485 was denied....so he filed a MOTR ..(a motion to reopen / reconsider .. not sure which one)

Motion to reopen or to reconsider can only be filed if you know the error of USCIS or you know the base of I-485 denial and you can provide correct evidence. Document to USCIS. We don’t know the reason at this time and poster has not provided the details. Going for appeal depends on the reason for appeal and appeal is long process, wastage of money because 99% appeal cases are denied. If I-140 base has gone or any fake papers filed any criminal activity then all MTR or appeal is not going to help
