hi,
1 - I'd like to know if I'm allow to travel to a country during the one year of waiting? (I've to take a college exam);
2 - I've opened a bank account (saving) recently and received after that a W 8 EBN form that want me to confirm a foreign status, but that form says not to file if I'm a US person including resident alien, so, what should i do?

thanks for replies.

1. If you were appproved for asylum, yes, you may travel. I would HIGHLY recommend that you apply for a I-131 travel document and have it in hand before you leave. You probably do not want to visit the country the US is protecting you from.

2. I have no idea what you are talking about.

If you are an asylee, get in touch with the bank and tell them that W-8BEN is not the correct form for you. You need to use W-9 instead.

thanks y'all for the replies,
1 - OK!
2 - I'd called the IRS, but the department of the W-8BEN form, and they told me that I still have to fill that form because, regarding an assessment we did on phone I don't meet the "substantial presence test" (I think)...
but, as u said, Vdostoi, I'll contact that time the W-9 form department to find out better what I get to do!

after a call to the IRS w-9 form department, A asylee must definitely files a W-9 form in that case if (s)he' sure to stay over 300 days in US since (s)he's been granted asylum.

Asylees and bank Accounts

Just two questions here:

1. Does the W-9 and W8BEN form apply to checking accounts that do not pay interest?

2. Provided that I do not go back to COP, does operating a bank account there pose any immigration issues for AOS time? (In the context of paying taxes on the interest income that the account in COP gains)

thankful is right on this tax issue.

also as an asylee you can apply for RTD for travel to countries that is not where you fled from but asylees are always encouraged not to travel outside the country if they don't really have to.
