1st NL letter received and further concerns

Dear friends,

I need your help.

I received my 1st NL letter on June 8, 2009 for DV-2010,
I filed the forms and sent back to KCC on June 12th.

I placed the address where my friend lives for the address where I'm intending to live. She is not U.S. citizen nor resident, she is babysitter at the American family. The family likes her very much and they offered me to stay at theirs.

My questions are:

1. What documents American family have to send me so I can bring them to Embassy at the time of interview?

2. How should they send me these documents, by mail, fax or by email?

3. Should it be in some specific/original forms?

4. Do they need to confirm they will support me financially too?
As for me it isn't necessary because I have sufficient funds on my bank account to completely support myself financially and meet all living costs including housing. Also I plan to start working as soon as I arrive.

5. If I find more preferred job in different place or state than the address I stated as the address I'm intending to live, should I inform KCC about this in advance or just to tell the consul at the time of interview? This may be important because in such case I would need to settle in different place where I might not have the relatives or friends so I'll rent apartment.

6. How likely U.S. employers offer a job to an applicant they even didn't met before? I'm asking this cause DV winners often brings a letter from employers at the interview already. Can you please suggest some job forums, etc?

7. I want to continue with my studies in U.S. Is it relevant information to be given at the interview since I am 33 already? It means I'll work and study.

8. According to previous DV's my CN may be current in January 2010. Does it means that interview should take a place in January too?

Guys thank you all for assistance, your help do mean a lot to me!

Sorry for bunch of questions :p

Cheers!!!!!

Dear friends,

I need your help.

I received my 1st NL letter on June 8, 2009 for DV-2010,

I placed the address where my friend lives for the address where I'm intending to live. She is not U.S. citizen nor resident, she is babysitter at the American family. The family likes her very much and they offered me to stay at theirs.

My questions are:

1. What documents American family have to send me so I can bring them to Embassy at the time of interview?

Depending from where you come from, you may need them to send you form I-134 (affidavit of support). You can find more information on it in other threads.

2. How should they send me these documents, by mail, fax or by email?

They should mail them to you directly well in advance before your interview date.

3. Should it be in some specific/original forms?

It should be the original documents. Mind you, you don't need much documentation from them. Only the affidavit and maybe 2 years' tax returns certificates/transcripts

4. Do they need to confirm they will support me financially too?
As for me it isn't necessary because I have sufficient funds on my bank account to completely support myself financially and meet all living costs including housing. Also I plan to start working as soon as I arrive.

If you can show strong financial standing, then you don't need any form of documentation from them.

5. If I find more preferred job in different place or state than the address I stated as the address I'm intending to live, should I inform KCC about this in advance or just to tell the consul at the time of interview? This may be important because in such case I would need to settle in different place where I might not have the relatives or friends so I'll rent apartment.

You are free to change the address anytime. It could even be done at the point of entry.

6. How likely U.S. employers offer a job to an applicant they even didn't met before? I'm asking this cause DV winners often brings a letter from employers at the interview already. Can you please suggest some job forums, etc?

Recruitment can be done in so many ways. It could be based on someones' credentials, in person, by phone interviews, etc. I don't have idea about any recruitment forum.

7. I want to continue with my studies in U.S. Is it relevant information to be given at the interview since I am 33 already? It means I'll work and study.

Once you are giving the GC, you can do whatever pleases you in live with regard to the way you want to shape you future. It all depends on you. You can work, study or do both at the same time. You don't need to disclose everything you will like to do in the US at the consulate, age is not an issue.

8. According to previous DV's my CN may be current in January 2010. Does it means that interview should take a place in January too?

It depends, it could be in December, January or February.

Guys thank you all for assistance, your help do mean a lot to me!

1+2+3: They don't need to send any documents. This address is where they'll send the GC. It doesn't where this address is, even Mickey Mouse, Disney World, Florida would be good as long as it is vaild ;)

4: If they they want to sponsor you with I-134, they need to provide you with the neccessary documents (see I-134).

5: You can change the address in the embassy at the interview or latest at the POE.

6: Very unlikely. I don't know anybody who was hired without a face to face interview.

7: Your are free to do whatever you like. Keep in mind, education in the US is expensive.

8: Yes

You can always attend a community College and if you have the GC you will be looked at as an In State resident, which saves you money.

To get into a better College will be hard since the competition will be toff and although many can't afford it right now, still many try to get in and are probable younger, have more chances than you...Sorry I don't want to be rude...but it is the truth.

What is the babysitter...legal or illegal and if you try to have the family sign the I-134 form they will be liable if you can't find a job and are out of money...the government can sue them if you apply for soc. security....On that form all bank accounts, properties, stocks, etc. have to be filled out so it is kind of a risk for them to fill it out for a complete stranger, but if they are willing to do so...good for you!

Your age does not matter when it comes to education. If you qualify for whatever u want to study in your greatest challenge will be funding. This is a really tough time even US citizens are finding it very difficult to access loans for education. At times if you do get offered a loan having been accepted into a University u might still need someone to underwrite it in the event that you fail to say back your loan. Thats a challenge most are trying by all means to but down on risk of more debt. Otherwise all your other questions have been answered exceptionally well.

Does anyone know how much time we have until we return DS-230 and DSP-122 to K.C.C? My 1st NL is dated May28, 2009 and it was in my friend's mailbox the day before yesterday. Considering that it will take a few days until my friend sends the package to me in Iran and I need some time checking the forms and taking a new photograph, I think I will courier the forms to K.C.C no later than July 15. Do you think it will be O.K?

You still still ok. Your case # should determine how soon you send back your forms. But as of now I guess you still have time. Many other people are also still recieving their NL's.
