194 and H1B extension

hi,

Currently I have I-94 valid till Dec 2002. This I-94 has been submitted , along with my current H1B, to the INS for processing my extension. I understand that when I get my extension I will get a H1 document with a detachable I-94 extension with the same number as was submitted by me, valid till a later date.

I might have to travel outside US now and be back before Nov. But, this would mean that upon arrival I will be issued a new I94 valid till Dec 2002.

At the end, when I get my extension document, I will have 2 I-94 pieces with different numbers and validity dates on them.
Wouldn't that be an issue ?

It is called the I94 mess

If possible, avoid travel when extension is pending. Options in the order of your best bets are
1. Beg Inpector at POE to issue I94 with same number
2. Go to POE after h1 approval and get a new I94 based on the new approval.
3. Go to local INS and apply to fix I94 error.
4. Do not worry about it and mess future h or GC petitions...
