...that on returning to India, one withdraws a set amount, say $8500 every year from 401K and then when you file US taxes for that year, the standard deduction being $8500, pays zero tax (gets refund of the 10% Fed tax deducted at source) and only end up paying the 10%...
Yes it is true. I know for sure that UK, Germany and France does not waive the transit visa requirement if one has only the GC stamp on the passport and not the actual card. Ironically if someone has a valid H1B/H4/L1 etc stamped on the passport then they don't need a transit visa.

Download the scanner from the other thread and scan the cases for the dates you think your case was filed. You may have to scan in the range of 50000-59999 for each day, therefore to get a complete set of lins for say 2-3 days would need some effort on your part.

Hi peace_of_mind:
This is an interesting comment and caught me off-guard. I've a valid H1B visa and also an AP and I am planning to use H1B on my return back to the US. Can you post any links to substantiate that AP should supersede H1B OR is this just your thought only?
Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the reply and yes you are right. I just spoke to the Consulate and they confirmed that one-way ticket should not change the applicability of the transit visa rules.
Good point about checking the rules couple of weeks prior to departure. I would surely do that.

Re: Re: Transit Visa for Germany
Hi dilbert30,
thanks for your reply. I tried calling the German Consulate yesterday but could not get through. I would do so again today. In the meanwhile I've also sent them an email, but so far no reply.

My family is going to Bombay on AI via Frankfurt. They have valid H4 visa stamped in their passports. I checked the Consulate's website and it confirms that transit visa is not required for them.
However they are flying on a one-way ticket and I'm not sure if...
If you are in the US, you do not need to take a PCC from local Indian police station. You can apply for the same at the nearest Indian Consulate in the US that has jurisdiction over your place of residence. For non-US issued passports, they take 5-6 weeks to issue the same.
I-134 is the...
Your wife would have to go personally to the SSN office along with the EAD card. There is a small form that she needs to fill and the SSN card would be emailed in abt 2 weeks time.
