Getting SSN after getting EAD

Can someone tell me how long it takes to get the SSN after getting EAD and what document they need?? This is for my wife who is on H4 right now.
Do they issue an SSN # right away or it comes with the card?? I'm in Maryland and applied my GC thru' Vermont.

Your wife would have to go personally to the SSN office along with the EAD card. There is a small form that she needs to fill and the SSN card would be emailed in abt 2 weeks time.

Take EAD with you and fill up an application for SSN at one of the SSN office near you and he/she verfies the information on EAD in thier database and then issue a SSN.The actual card may take two weeks to arrive.

Don't forget to carry the passport and the Drivers Licence (if you have one).

Documents needed : EAD, Driver's License ( or any other photo ID ) and Passport
Once the form is submitted SSN will be received in 2 weeks, in most cases, within 7 days.

We just carry driver licence for me and passport + EAD for wife.
We received SSN in 5 working days.
