Jaxen From above replies this is how understand the issue: EAD usage changes your status to Adjustee while there is no regulation the voids your H1.In order to get back your H1 status you have to re-enter US using H1 visa.Till employer has not cancelled your H1 and job is valid H1 is valid ...

Akash Its better to engage a lawyer rather than doing it yourself,I-140 is employer petition;I-485 you can do it on your own (but i would recommend doing it via lawyer,in case you have RFEs etc). BTW do you live in Lisle-Napervile area.

Akash You will need to file I-140 for yourself and I-485 for each of your family members and yourself. BTW which is your service center.

Ginnu What happens if 485 is denied and person has used used EAd for part-time.Will re-entry on existing H1 visa (time remaining;multiple H1's available ) puts you back on H1 status. Thanks Petestone

I have read many people saying use of EAD cancels your H1 status.Is there a regulation on it.Also what happens when you are maintaining valid H1 status and use EAD for part-time job,assuming you entered US on H1 visa. Jaxen,Ginnu pls throw some light on this.

Negotiate for leave of absence with your consulting company,dont let them cancel I-140.

employment gap Dont think so,after filing I-485 u are adjustee,u are in status so should not be an issue.
