Do F1 students need transit visa for UK?

Yes you do need a transit visa. According to the consulate, it does not matter that you will not be stepping out of the airport. Even if you are travelling by Air India, in which case you will not be stepping out of the aircraft, you still need a transit visa. This is only true while going to...

SJC stamped a month ago, still no card

Not sure why all of you are in such a great hurry! You got the stamp on your passport! Relax! It took about 3 months for my card to come. And I travelled about 3 times before I got the card with no problems. I know some of the people I know got their cards in 2 months or less and some...

    Questions on the plastic card...

From what i understand, cards are manufactured by a third party contractor. The immigration deplartment sends out these requests to different contractors. The speed with which they manufacture these cards are based on the backlog they have. The online status will not change or progress during...

    Card received with spelling mistake.

Not sure what the process is but I would immediately call customer service and seek their advise. The good part is that you don't necessarily need your card to travel since you probably have the GC stamped on your passport with the A#. If the customer service can't assist you, go to the...

Finger Printing and Approval - An overview

Here is a post I put up back in 2002. I have read some questions on this and thought it might be usefull to people getting confused with the process. I got my GC a while back (2002) but visit occassionally to help out with information based on my experience from time to time. Hope you enjoy...

    My I-485 has been approved!

As long as you have an official letter from the INS and a day specified to go and get the stamping done, who cares if the phone line says otherwise! Enjoy! You are now one of the lucky one's. Congratulations!

How long to get card after stamping?

no gaurantees. I got my card way back in 2002 and it took about 2 months. But i have seen varied times after that - some as early as 3 weeks and some as late as 8 months. So just hang in there. You are now a GC holder (if you have the stamp) no matter what. Enjoy!

    Some questions on AC21

Look for interspersed opinions. Note that these are opinions based on your I485 filing, not based on simultaneous filings of I140 and I485. I'm not sure how the law reads on this new issue as I did not go through it.

Sep RD. RFE issued. status not updated

no specific time frame on approval after RFE. Most cases, I've seen approvals coming within two months of RFE reply. But some isolated cases have taken more that 4 months.

after approval how long for stamping?

There is no specific time frame. They will probably give you a particular day of the week to get your stamping. You can go anytime. But the earlier you go, the better it is. Also, maybe you would want to go and get your stamping done before your wife, just to keep the process rolling. Your...

Should one do Medicals again if I-485 takes more than 1 Year

I don't think so. I have seen several cases taking more than a year that have been approved without a medical RFE. Finger prints expire after 15 months on the FP date, but I haven't come accross anyone specifying that about medicals. I would simply wait for an RFE if any.

    passport stamped at NYC

I think its good to have the SS updated mainly because I have heard that even though you have your green card, certain places refuse to let you work for monetary benifit when the see the "Authorized for work by INS...." stuff on your card. The process took me less than 5 minutes at the local SS...

    passport stamped at NYC

Congratulations! Now wait atleast 4 weeks for the AVM to change to "cards ordered". Mine changed on 9/24 (stamping on 8/30). I think the overall experince in NYC is pretty pleasant in comparison to others I have read. Except for parking, everything was very convenient. Best of luck.

Easily reached IIO 9:30am: no need to cancel $120 check for EADrenew after GC approva

I agree with Cole. Be sure of what you are doing. They will first encash the check and then look at you application. If the check bounces, I don't know what they will do. If they simply return you application since the check is bounced, that would be good. Else, they may fine you and that...

    Received White card

rannidev, I got my stamping done on 8/30. Just yesterday, the AVM changed to "card ordered". So in short there is no exact time frame. Just an approximation of 3-4 weeks.

Online Status Updated Next Day Only!!!

I support magesh_kk's theory. Online my case info says that the application has been approved and an approval notice has been sent. This is what I am seeing even this morning. However, last evening when I called the 802 number, I was getting the card ordered message as of yesterday. So...

Rejection of 485 due to Change of Employer

Do appreciate the info. But I am sure there is more to it than just change of employer. The officers cannot simply ignore the law and take decisions in to their own hands! Taking a lawyer along would definitely help in such situations as they can argue on the clients behalf.
