What does this achieve? Do the US Consulates send their people into remote villages in the home country to verify all the info? Or simply check against the database maintained at the US Consulate for information filed at the time of applying for the non-immigrant visa (more likely the cse). In...
<...unless an applicant is trying to deal with USCIS within a year of coming into the US...>
Regarding this, do you mean "within a year of first coming to the US or within a year of most recent coming". Some people come on J-1 visas or F-1 but go back and forth (e..g during summer). So if...
Thanks for the info. I'm beginning to plan for my mother's application.
Is the Marriage Certificate required for sure? I do have my father's death certificate but coming from India, marrage certificates were never formally used all of their lives.
As for the Birth Certificate only her...
See my timeline: I was stuck in NC and the whole thing took 29 months. There were also people stuck far longer than me. This is somewhat of a rarity now but back in 2005-2007 this was quite common.
Good luck to you and hope you are not stuck in NC like I did.

This had me alarmed as I have recently applied for an Indian visa and just sent my US passport to them yesterday. So I called Travisa in Chicago yesterday to make sure this is not the practice over at their office. They confirmed that they now rubberband the two passports when sending them back...
Firstly understand that sponsoring green cards for siblings can take several years for the process to complete since it is based on quotas and siblings get lower priority in the processing order.
Second, my filing for a green card application you would have declared immigrant intent which is...
I doubt if you will make it to the June ceremonies. Too close. The St Paul office seems to be backed up a bit. See my timeline - it is horrible. I had delays every step of the way - mine was scheduled right on the 4th month after interview.

Yes. I also did my MBA (Executive MBA, actually) part-time from 2005-2007 and reported that on my N400 which I filed in late 2006. So yes, report all professional activitiy you have been engaged in.

If you have submitted a previous affidavit then in all likelihood you won't be asked for it again during the N400 interview. In my case, my birth cert was accepted at the time of the green card but the name was incomplete. So during the N400 interview I was asked for proof. I was lucky I had...
My advise:
Take ANYthing and EVERYthing even remotely related to your presence in the US. You never know what gest asked for. You don't want to take the risk of returning from the interview with a "decision not made" and a bunch of RFEs. Just not worth the time and agony. It is best to be...
Thanks everyone for the kind words of congratulations. It has been a long journey for me and yesterday was a day of mixed emotions.
I'll be signing off this forum for some time while I try to get organized for my wife's green card process! :)
Cheers and good luck to all on their...
Dear all,
28.5 months after filing my N400 application, I finally became a US Citizen. The oath ceremony was today (4/15) at the St. Paul Federal Courthouse. The ceremony was nice and low key (only 68 people were administered oath today) which was just as well. As of 3PM today I officially...
What kind of bills? If they are routine utility bills (electric, gas, telephone), sure he can pay from wherever (on time hopefully). I doubt the DOS would know nor care about any bills unpaid. If they are IRS, mortgage or other loan type of things he better pay them off even though the DOS...
This is from my attorney who I consulted before filing for my fiancee's visa (suceesfully) recently.
The basic premise for entering on a J-1 visa in the country is that you have no immigration intent. When you apply for the J-1 waiver you have implicitly declared an immigration intent. From...
This is most likely the case - once the FPs are more than 15 months old, the only thing that triggers the second FP is some activity going forward so you can expect to have the NC done. Mine was a similar situation and so was that for three others in my area who all waited on their NCs to be...
Why do you need 1 above? Once you have 2 above, 1 is redundant.
2, 3 and 4 is all you need (even 4 is questionable - your lcoal driver's license will do for identification).
I think you are supposed to sign the N-445 at the oath.

Well guess what! They are disorganized as ever! By the time the effect of these memos trickle down to the trenches of the USCIS, there might be another one coming out, to create more confusion.
Why are we surprised?
