Imigre, I think what Hiram might be trying to tell you is that once you use your I-485 your H1b will be useless. I don't think should be any reason why you can't apply for your H1 B extenstion and EAD renewal at the same time. Goodluck.

Don't know if rules have changed but unlike EAD, your H1B is valid right from the receipt day. Even if your RD is the same day as your current H1B expiration day, you are in valid status.

I wouldn't think the 485 would get closed to having any more additions if you use your EAD. what does your lawyer say?

EAD is valid for one year. I don't think you need an interview for EAD approval. You might have an interview related to your 485 but not EAD. hope this helps. Goodluck.
