Thanks Nelson. How do you re-establish residence in Canada? I'm from Ontario and it takes 3 months before I can get OHIP. Does the same thing apply to UI?
Also, does anyone now if Arizona has an agreement with the Candian gov for claiming UI? Or can you point me to where I can get this...
What if you have been working in the US for a lot of years and have cut ties with Canada to avoid Canadian income tax? Would you still qualify to apply for Canadian EI when you move back to Canada?
Some employers prefer TN over H1 transfer because it is a bit faster if you go to the border. Even if they do premium H1 transfer or premium TN by mail, there is still at least a week or two before the new employee can start working. But if you go to the border today to get a TN, you can start...
Here it is straight from government's site, fhaoutreach.gov FAQ:
"Citizenship of the United States is not required for eligibility. When a mortgage loan applicant indicates on the loan application that he or she holds something other than U.S. citizenship, the lender must determine residency...
Some credit card companies/banks also require US citizenship or premanent residency for their credit cards. I don't want to mention the name but one of them is a huge well-known bank.
Just move on and find another lender. Also find out if EAD is really required for FHA.
Well I have never seen or heard of an RFE from CIS to prove the job is temporary. Can someone explain it to me why would CIS ask for that?!!! This could open the door to a lot of problems for TNers.
Also, I was under the impression CIS was easier on TN than CBP. This case proved me...
My concern is CIS might start also RFEing TN petitions if there is an approved/pending I-140. By the same token, if the employer is doing I-140 how could the job be of temporary nature?!!!
I was shocked when I saw this thread! RFE to prove the temporary nature of the job?!!!!!
Please keep us posted. I am very interested in this case. I wonder why the lawyer does not want to deal with the RFE. What could've triggered this RFE? The wordings of the petition?! This is a bad sign if CIS wants to harrass TNers. How could the employer prove the job is of a temporary nature?!!!
Thanks, that's a bit of relief. I have picked San Francisco as my point of entry. It is in the hi-tech region and I work in hi-tech, so they should be quite familiar with cases like mine.
So you never surrendered your I94 on the way out?
He/she sounds like one of these lawyers who try to sell H1-GC path. I've heard this "maintaining residence abroad" only from lawyers before. Even by using common sense, how can you maintain a residence abroad when you are working or studying in the US for quite a few years?! I have been on TN...
Thanks Nelson.
I am gonna try to hold on to my I-94 unless the airlines persist. At least I won't let them take it until my connection (when I am about to literally leave the US soil).
I will be traveling to Europe in a month and I will re-enter US thru a non-Canadian airport like JFK. I have a choice which airport since I haven't bought my ticket yet. It could be JFK, Washington DC, Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco etc.
I'd appreciate any Canadian sharing his/her experience...
You just reminded me of Molson commercials!! Lol!
I am a caucasian Canadian and I still get treated like other foreigners! Lol! Well, I work for a big company that's known for being a slavehouse for foreigners at least until they get their GCs. My boss is communicated for each email regarding...
I know this is off-topic but I have a possible upcoming trip to Europe:
When you traveled to a third country, did you surrender your I-94 and also, did they issue you a new I-94 when you came back from a third country?
Can we use "finishing the lease"? If I ever got laid off, my 1st problem would be to get out the apartment lease I am in. Fortunately in the state where I live, if there is only 3 months left on the lease, one can buy the lease for less than the rent for 3 months. But I have to get to that point...
Oh yeah! You are right. Here it is:
http://www.dhs.gov/xtrvlsec/programs/gc_1231972592442.shtm
It now also includes green-cardholders!
"Effective January 18, 2009, the following additional non-U.S. citizens will be required to provide biometrics when entering or re-entering the United...
Since when US-VISIT applies to Canadians? Last time I checked it did not apply to Canadians. I have been on I-94 for ages and never went thru US-VISIT.
Congrats! Was the new TN for the same employer and the same job?
What I didn't understand was why you got fingerprinted?!!! What's that all about if you don't mind me asking?! I just crossed the border a few weeks ago and didn't get fingerprinted!
