Depends on what TN status you're renewing. I've obtained legal advice that specifically says anyone on a Sci-Tech or Mgmnt Consultant TN avoid the border at all costs and mail-in. If you plan this well you should not have much of a break between positions. My .00002 cents worth.

My mail-in's when I was with the same company, many differnet contracts, for a number of years were just rehashed with new dates and passed muster each time. You "should be OK" with re-using your last letter. Make damn sure all the dates get changed and proof read it before it gets sent in.

I'm not holding my breath this change was announced last year 6 + months later they've just submitted for review and approval. Maybe in 2009 but I wouldn't bet a nickel on it.

TN's are 1 year in duration there's been no change at this point. If you look at the DHS site they still quote "up to 1 year" for TN's. If you do put more than 1 year for requested length I expect the application will get returned to you as a rejection or else an RFE, request for evidence.
