    Preparing for CP in Montreal

I'm planning to respond to my DV-2008 First NL (DSP122 & DS-230-I & DS-230-II) soon. As a Naturalized Canadian Citizen with a Non-Canadian wife (Kenyan Citizen with a Canadian Permanent Residence Status), should I start getting the fingerprint work done by the RCMP in Ontario (I lived there...

TN Mail in services - what's possible?

one more question Are certified (notarized) copies of degree, marriage cert, etc ok? I remember back in the day, with my initial TN app, the officer actually run his finger nails over the wax seal on my degree - I guess to see if it was a fake..

Might be getting NEW TN soon...Yaaaayyyy!!!

errr...give me a hint here, please Nelsona, is your question in reference to wifey's TD? If so, then yes, there is a need to switch to TD...at least in my thinking. When we applied for B2, I put wifey down in the same I-539, with me being the principal applicant. Once I get the TN, I...

TN/TD extension - New DL laws for California

Same here in GA I have a 10yr DL in GA, and recently went and took MSF. While @ DMV in GA, the DMV guy tells me I will lose my 10yr DL for a 9 month DL, since my i-94 expires in Aug. I questioned his statement and he printed out a new GA law that requires all DL's for resident aliens to...

Might be getting NEW TN soon...Yaaaayyyy!!!

So I got affected by the sub-prime mess, got laid off, but might be starting a new job with a telecom on Apr 28th. Can someone see any issues with my plan below, and correct where appropriate? 1.) Fly to Toronto ALONE for the TN. (will INS question where wifey is?...we are on B2...

Best way to Renew TD for non-canadian wife??

Why do I get the feeling that given all the efforts to clarify this fact, the O/P may be planning to leave his wife stuck in "no-mans-land" i.e. Cant go into Canada, and cant get back into the US since no TD was issued on the attempt to got to US consulate was denied...

    Dual intent

hmmm.... I believe I have a good understanding of what "dual intent" means. I know that filing I-485 voids any NIV's which have dual intent exclusion (i.e. TN visa). I just was not sure if DSP-230 had the same effect, but from your answer, my fears have been confirmed.

    Dual intent

So responding to First NL involves submitting forms -: DSP-122 => Supplemental Registration for The Diversity Immig. Visa DSP-230 => Application for Immig. Visa & Alien Registration (part I & II) My question is: At what point will "clear dual intent" manifest itself? when I complete & send...

    Changing employement

correction.... Nelsona, I think HelloAmerica was refering to an INS officer as a "consular" :) see m-w.com definition of consular which shows that a "consular is...an official appointed by a government..." It's all good though...:D

    Dual intent

Same Question Here... Hi Lucy, could you ask those people you know if they got hassled and which POE they went to....??? I will be sending in my response to first NL for 2008DV in March, and my concern is that my "participation" in DV lotto might mess up getting TN @ Detroit's POE, upon a...

TN to GC: When to file I140 and I485

Lol!! I assume that by you saying "We", here, implies those of us who are no longer newbies....:D My comment was aimed at newbies who might be inclined to not believe that section 8 C.F.R. §274a.12(b)(20) exists. They are usually the ones with the most  look.

Calling all Strategists: TN --> Layoff --> B2 pending --> TN (best way to get new)

Excellent response Thanks for the breakdown Nelsona Now If only someone (who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, who works for INS) would fill me in whether my being selected as a DV lotto recipient, would create an impediment to getting a TN @ POE....anyone here ;)

Calling all Strategists: TN --> Layoff --> B2 pending --> TN (best way to get new)

interesting.... The separation contract letter indicated that my termination date is in April, while the period mid-feb to mid-april is my 60 day "Notice Period". Using this letter's april "termination date", I can arguably say I am still on TN and that my immigration status will change...

TN to GC: When to file I140 and I485

In the past I have (or the lawyers in this case) have sent my application 3 months left. I believe that the INS will use the expiry date of your current TN as the start date of the new TN...so you will not lose any time. The question is...Will your employer see it from the same angle? and...

TN to GC: When to file I140 and I485

Ha! Ha! I like this "little known" technicality...found in this legal INS section 8 C.F.R. §274a.12(b)(20). FYI...this citation allows for an automatic 240 day extension of your work authorization as long as an extension is timely filed. :D

Calling all Strategists: TN --> Layoff --> B2 pending --> TN (best way to get new)

This post is for the "experts" (IMHO, that would be nelsona, bigboy, TheRealCanadian, Tnvisaexpert, et al), but anyone can chime in:) I am in B2 pending (I hope), since I filed for it 2 weeks ago. I got laid off early Feb (though usual payroll monies is being deposited every 2 weeks until...

Canadian passport renewal (no Advanced parole yet)

I renewed my passport last year by mail with ZERO PROBLEMS. I took a photo according to the US specs (photographer did not have Canadian "cutter") and simply sent them in, with a cover letter on why they were out of spec, and they were accepted. For your situation, I believe I read...

Citigroup Layoff Gloom....while on TN Status

Thanks Nelsona.... Thanks Nelsona for the responses. For Q#1: I re-read the layoff contract and it states ..."You are hereby advices that this job discontinuance action, together with other job discountinuance actions at your site are permanent, and there will be no bumping rights..."...

    TN and B2 extension questions

In the same boat Why cant he find work? I am assuming the skill sets that brought him here on TN can still be made of use with another company....right? I just got laid off too (mortgage industry woes), but I am already looking since I know my skills are transferable. I also had an interview...
