On Thursday, an USCIS officer contacted my wife's lawyer asking for the Visascreen and made a comment that he would have approved the 485 application had the Visascreen been available. He issued a RFE instead since my wife did not have a certified visascreen.

No she hasnt recieved her EAD yet.(though she has another valid EAD). The EAD/AP file was forwarded to the San Jose local office.
She has applied to for an infopass appointment for ThursdayAug/31st to check if she can get the AP earlier. We plan to vacation in Europe next month.

I called up the emergency number and they let me know that they are doing a backround check in each of the 3 countries for which I was a citizen.
That could take anywhere between 6 months to a year.
