I am also in the same situation. And I don't even live in the same state anymore. But I just called the state's DMV and obtained my citation details using my SSN. I can also obtain a driver's record if I want to. Driver's record will indication all the citations, if paid or not etc...

But I don't have the citation with me now. I must have lost it. What are the alternative documents can I show that I got the citation and paid the penalty on time?

Also, there is one requirement according to N400 Information Guide... You are eligible to apply for citizenship only if you lived in the district (within US) for at least 3 months prior to the application date. So, I would suggest, before applying for citizenship, come back to US at least...
