Basically yes... but any plane ticket that would show I would be leaving Canada would've sufficed.
I actually bought a one way ticket from Toronto to my home country and they were satisfied. I showed them I have a long-term visa to my home country so they wouldn't send me back to Canada.
I flew from the west coast to Buffalo and used the shuttle to get into Canada. What happened, though is that I was denied entry because I didn't have a return flight ticket to California (it was a day of tougher inspection, according to Canadian immigration themselves).
So the shuttle...
If one left the US with a non-US passport and applies for a US passport overseas to prepare for the entry, wouldn't the gov know right then that (s)he violated the law and departed the US without a US passport?
They ask you during the interview whether there was any change to the form including your address. For a change of address, they ask when (I moved so I know although my move was within the city). You will also have to let the IO know you've got a new job and by that the IO could know you moved...
I guess I was in the last batch who had the oath ceremony in Oakland. I live in the city and I would've walked to Masonic Center - darn! But going to Oakland was not that bad. The public transportation was really good.... and it was the first (and perhaps the last) time I've been to Oakland...
Whoa, this became a whole new thread!! Thanks for your input. I do believe the US is the most open country to foreigners, although immigrating to Canada is not so hard (getting a job is another story).
I have no family in the US but my sister does in Canada and she thinks we should stay...
Hi
I became a US citizen yesterday. First of all let me thank everybody in this forum - I got a lot of help here by just reading the posts.
Now my question:
I have a sister who is a PR of Canada and she's urging me to apply for the Canadian PR myself. I wonder whether applying for it...
I had like, 6-7 trips to Canada during the last 5 years and the agent asked me why I went there so often. Although I had lengthy (4-4.5 months) trips to another country twice, he didn't even care - but he asked me about my Canadian trips. I told him I had a sister in Canada and the issue was...
Being a residenct and living in a certain state are two different things.
You said yourself that the MD living is temporary. If that's the case, it is unlikely that MD is considered as your resident state - although I would say 18 months is long enough to break one's residency. However, your...
I received my letter today too! My interview was May 19th.
It is nice to have things done so quickly. It took me almost 4 years to get my GC (fingerprinted twice)... from signing the sponsorship doc to getting 485.
Hi,
Today I received my oath letter. The oath is scheduled on June 17, 2009. I am so happy and excited!
I had a hunch that I would be getting the letter today and I was right!
They may want to see it to verify your state residency.
As for me, they never asked me to see my state ID...I had my jobs that show I lived in my current state long enough. I didn't receive a yellow letter though.
Newbie - passed the interview
Hi there!
I've been a lurker for a while. I learned alot from here and I think it's time for me to return some favor.
I filed N400 under the 5-year rule.
My previous employer sponsored me for my greencard, I stayed with them for two year and quit. I...
