I have a TN valid up to 2025/10 - which is tied to Vendor A .

My contract ended after 13 months on 31st December 2024 - I am back in Canada.

I am now getting a new contract with Vendor B - can I enter the US with the valid TN that I already have and start my next contract and while inside the US get my lawyer to apply for a new TN via USCIS (not going to the border).

Let me know.

Thanks

Your TN was tied to Vendor A.

That said, you cannot use it for Vendor B. You need a new TN for a new Vendor B for starting your new employment with that vendor.

Might seem like a silly question from a person working on TN for more than 8 yrs.

But the reason for the question is becoz of the below follow up question:

When I check online for the status of my TN - it still shows active and tied to Vendor A - it does not show up as cancelled or revoked.

If I cross the border by car the visa officer gets to see the same status as I see online - and I zoom across the border.

So question : how would anyone know that I have started working for Vendor B on the same TN (tied to Vendor A) - not that I would do it but this is a question that comes up in my mind.
I can tell you Vendor A is not at all bothered to have it cancelled or revoked since they do not want to go thru the logistics of the process with a lawyer.

Vendor A is not required to cancel your TN upon completion of your project. It is not a matter of how would anyone know. The onus is on you to not misrepresent yourself while crossing the border by presenting yourself as if you’re seeking admission/re-admission to work for vendor A, knowing that project has already concluded. The onus is on you to not fraudulently use a TN tied to Vendor A to work for Vendor B.

Besides, Vendor B has a legal responsibility to verify -- and document -- that they (or you) have obtained the required work authorization specifically for them. This is not the parking lot at Home Depot!
