Is the U-sticker absolutely needed for travel in addition to the OCI certificate/docs ? Since passports expire and and OCI does not, sooner or later it's going to become a big hassel to carry 2 passports - an expired one with the U-sticker and a current one. Worse still, if you are a family...

Don't waste your time I can unequivocally tell you that you don't need one. It's a waste of your time and will be a waste of the IO's time if he/she even reads it. Think about it this way: What exactly can you tell the IO that isn't already there in the app. itself? The N-400 guidelines...
