Newbie Asylum Question

Hi, we are a family of four & planning to claim asylum in US. I am not Clear on the concept of asylum work permit. AFAIK after 6 months, asylum claimants can apply for EAD. How long does EAD processing take? It is very hard for us to stay in US for a long period of time without EAD. I was also wondering if my son would be able to study in Grade 11? Please help me regarding this questions

According to the USCIS website most of EAD initial cases will be processed within 1.5 months. In regards to your son, it depends on the state but in general when you get the receipt ( your asylum application), he will be able to enroll.
