The November bulletin is out. Here are the new numbers for December:

AFRICA 7,000 Except: Egypt 4,000
ASIA 3,500 Except: Iran 1,600, Nepal 2,750
EUROPE 6,000
NORTH AMERICA (BAHAMAS) 4
OCEANIA 450
SOUTH AMERICA,
and the CARIBBEAN 550

Why is it going so slow this year, especially for Africa? I tend to think I’ll end up filling in April instead of January
Copied from another post ... just my opinion of course

I would totally expect things to be moving slow... they will have a crush of 4 or 5 months’ worth of cases to process at once when the ban is over, no point just making that worse. ( I am almost surprised they are even moving much right now tbh, family based cases have not moved at all for 3 months and barely since the few before that.) Wondering if there will be an order to prioritize DV cases once cases re-start - if that’s the case we could see significant catch-up next year - September showed they can process an awful lot of DV visas when they need to, and that was even with some embassies still closed

I will try to work with the early filling memo then. At that point I might be out of status before I file

My friend and I are both selected and we both use this account.
I, account owner, filed already (with a 1-month bank statement). But he still has to file his i485, so he’s looking for a sponsor. Also he graduates in April so he either go out of status or apply for OPT

Both of you shouldn't be using a single account to ask questions about two different cases. It creates confusion. Each person should have their own specific account, otherwise we can't really help you guys, as we wouldn't know which case is being asked about.

My CN is 2021AF63XXX, since the December number (per the bulletin) is now around 7000 does that mean I'm likely to be due for interview after June 2021? Is it possible they will never get to my case number ie does everyone get the chance or once they hit the limit of visas they want to issue, they stop?

Yes. (By the way it is not what they “want” to issue, the maximum number is limited by law.) Per the instructions (page 13, #28) https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Diversity-Visa/DV-Instructions-Translations/DV-2021-Instructions-Translations/DV-2021- Instructions-English.pdf

For DV-2021, 55,000 Diversity Visas are available. Because it is likely that some of the first 55,000 persons who are selected will not qualify for visas or not pursue their cases to visa issuance, more than 55,000 entries will be selected to ensure that all of the available DVs are issued. However, this also means there may not be a sufficient number of visas for all those selected. ....
Each month, visas will be issued to those applicants who are eligible for issuance during that month, as long as visas are available. Once all of the 55,000 diversity visas have been issued, the program will end. Visa numbers could be finished before September 2021. Selected applicants who wish to apply for visas must be prepared to act promptly on their cases. Being randomly chosen as a selectee does not guarantee that you will receive a visa. Selection merely means that you are eligible to apply for a Diversity Visa. If your rank number becomes eligible for final processing, you potentially may be issued a Diversity Visa. Only 55,000 visas will be issued to such applicants.

In practice, this has happened some years, not in others. Hard to know what the net effect of Covid and delayed interviews due to the ban this year will be.
