Leaving US without the plastic Green Card?

Hi guys,
I hope everyone is fine and doing well. First of all, I am extremely sorry that I haven't been able to show up on the forum and help you guys. I am really sorry, I got so busy with life. Please forgive me. Now let's come to my question. Despite all my efforts, I couldn't get my plastic green card delivered to me here in New York city. There were some problems with my address in US, and USCIS hasn't been able to successfully deliver the green card to me. I have paid my green card, and my green card has been produced by USCIS. But, unfortunately, due to the address problems, it hasn't been delivered to me yet. The problem is that I have to leave US in the next 5 days, and go back home and attend my final year examinations. My examination cannot be delayed, so I must go there and attend it. What do you guys think, can I leave US without my plastic green card? And with my green card not with me, will it create a problem for me to get back to US? My DV Immigrant visa clearly says that for one year it is a temporary green card. Can I travel with this immigrant visa, and get back to US without problems. I have already purchased a two way ticket. I will leave US, and then get back after exactly 10 days? What do you guys think, is this step of mine very risky? I don't want to risk my US permanent residence. I will be looking forward to your wonderful and helpful replies.

Thank you so much, and God bless all of you guys. I wish you have a smooth and successful interview

Gabam, Good to hear from you.

You can leave, that isn't the issue. getting back without the GC is the issue. Your I-551 is dated - is it out of date (or will it be when you try to come back).

I'm a bit confused - where does he say he will be out of the US for so long? The I-551 once endorsed is valid as a green card for a year from date of endorsement.

Ahhh OK - then that is the answer - I didn't realise the I-551 is endorsed on entry. Thanks Susie!

Hi guys,
I'm a DV 2014 winner, I already received my SSN but the green card not yet.
Is there any way to check the status of my Green Card online?

I land on 14th of Dec, yes I paid the fee online. Is there a telephone number to check ?

I wouldn't have expected the green card to have arrived yet...? I think you can check with your USCIS confirmation number online or call them.

I am a dv lottery 2014 winner i came hear in 29november 2013 i pay fee online in uscis 26november befor i caming i receive my ssn but until now i dont get my gc i call uscis they say they have nothing so what i have to do

Do you have your confirmation of payment from USCIS? I seem to recall the website had details for contacting them if there was a problem.

I entered US on 13th November 2013, so the endorsement will give me one year, till November 13th 2014. So, what do you think, is it safe for me to stay outside US for two weeks with having the physical plastic green card? Please, I am waiting for your opinion, please help me with this decision, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes you can leave and come back using the endorsement on your passport. Besides, the duration of your trip is quite minimal, so you should be okay coming back in.

Take your pay.gov conformation with you to the appointment as well, as proof that you paid the fee.

Finally I left US without green card. The immigration officer told me at the airport that the endorsed visa is just like a green card for 1 year. So, everything will be fine. Pray for me brothers!!!!!!!

Apparently you didn't believe what I wrote.

Back to the United States from my country. The endorsed US Immigrant visa is just like a physical Green card, for one year. I had no trouble getting back in. The Immigration officers everywhere had no problem with my visa. So, guys, just don't worry, the US Immigrant visa is respected everywhere. I am in love with country, I simply love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
