KER01

Registered Users (C)
Last Name on the Birth Cert. and marriage Cert is AL XYZ and the Last name on the Passport is XYZ

Last name on the passport is a miss type

the last name on the passport is the same as the form that I filled before I was selected as well as the Forms I send after selection.
My interview will be on 2nd of September.
1-Is it an issue? And Is the CO will question the names differences.

2- How to rectify this problem?

3- If the CO did not mention anything about it do I need to inform him/her?

This situation is really stress me out

I need your advice

Thank you

Get a new passport for yourself as soon as possible and make sure they do not make spelling mistakes again.
When you get your new passport with correct spelling inform KCC about the whole situation, by sending email, kccdv@state.gov
email subject: case number...

and in the content of the email write:
Case Number: 2009EU0000xxxx
Date of Birth: 01022013 no slashes ///
Preference Category: DV DIVERSITY
Foreign State Chargeability: (state)
Post: (city)

............

In your email to KCC send as attachment DS and DSP forms, fill up the both forms again, with correct spelling.

At this point in time, I wouldn't advocate sending a new set of forms to KCC since your file has already been sent to your applicable US embassy.

Also, the instruction for the eDV application was to enter your name as it appeared on your passport and that is what you did. I think you might have created issues for yourself if you had tried to add the 'AL' to the forms you sent to KCC after your selection which fortunately you didn't.

My suggestion is to leave things as they are. If the CO makes mention of it during your interview, you can explain (for whatever reason) you decided to drop the AL from your last name.

You can also swear an affidavit confirming that both names are yours and take that to your interview.

he cannot say "I decide to drop AL in his own right, because he did not change his surname officially. His surname is wht his birth certificate says. He must stick to what he really has. And what he has fo the interview is nothing, a passport with no valid surname, it is a problem.

KENO1, if everything is OK why you are waiting all this time. Go and get a new passport tomorrow, it is not going to work like this.

If you send forms again
Case Number: 2009EU0000xxxx
Principl applican: (name, suname)
Date of Birth: 01022013 no slashes ///

Foreign State Chargeability: (state)

Oh yes, he should go ahead and get a new passport, suddenly the name on the passport doesn't match the name he used for the eDV application which is the basis of his selection and the name KCC has on record for him.

Showing up with a new passport with no bearing to the name used in initial application is signal for a RED flag in my opinion. My suggestion is stick with the name as is on your passport and get an affidavit attesting to the fact that both names are yours!

If he lives in a country were he is not allowed to claim two surnames what would you tell him

Don't worry about it and simply do nothing, there has been similar cases like this.

This is not a minor mistake that belongs to the category of missing information, this goes beyond and it is about legitimacy of is surname and it is much more serous and it will not be overlooked by the consular office
it is a red flag anyway
He should send KCC e-mail with explanation asap

I have a question about this subject. My wife is using her maiden name. Her surname on official documents and passport don't have dash (-). But when I filed DS-230 I used dash between her maiden name and surname.

For example A B-C instead of A B C

Do you think it is a problem?

No

So what did you put in the original eDV application? Good luck if this was different from your birth certificate.

If you are asking to me, as far as I remember I wrote her surname like 'A B C' format in eDV application. No dash in surname.
My wife usually fills the forms using dashed surname at school and other places, we didn't have any issues at all. We've been in US for 4 years.
