Hey Gero, don't give up, your day is coming, I know some one who tried for 5 times and got it on the sixth time he is now in Florida. 'It is not that things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that things are difficult". My husband applied and he filled for me too as a by the way, he was surprised when I got selected on first attempt(he wasn't selected) whereas he is more qualified academically than me and more than 5 years of work experience.
"More than once I have heard God say that power belongs to him" Pray hard and persevere.

Vaccination records

Namirembe,

most Ugandans are on the Kenyan thread...since the amount of Ugandans who apply for the DV isn't high, the few tend to use the Kenyan thread to seek advice and help. Over there it is super active. As to the number, I am not so sure. So far for the 2014 DV, I know only you and 4Turya.

Dear JONGE and 4Turya,
I have some concerns about vaccination records.
1. My parents did not keep any immunization records for me, where in Uganda can I obtain the same.
2.If there is a place in Uganda where I can get a clearance for all the required vaccines, do I really need to get vaccinated or I can just obtain the clearance and that's it. Can the medical examiner test whether I have ever really got a certain vaccine(are there scientific tests for this)
3. Do we need to travel to Kenya for medicals or by now there are some approved examiners in Ug.
Any idea guys.

Hello Namirembe,

we will all have to have the medicals from Nairobi so budget for it as well...regarding the vaccinations if you have no record then you will need to get new shots in Nairobi...I am told it costs extra money for each vaccination you have...you could ideally take them from here and keep the records however you will need to know what kind of vaccinations to take

Hey Brother,

Keep your eyes straight forward no matter what looks to be frustrating. I believe God has got a beautiful plan, just keep tryig. I wish you the best and we shall continue to put you in our prayers. Be blessed

Birth certificates

Hello guys,
I have a question about birth certificates. Do they accept short birth certificates which we obtain from sub counties or specifically they want the long one.
What about UNEB certificates, do we have to go to UNEB for certification.

Thanks JONGE for the reply.
Now shall we be subjected to tests in order to determine whether a certain vaccine was taken.

Thanks Namirembe, Now regarding the birth certificates, read the instructions very well about how to obtain the civic documents. they are saying that we should go back at the sub-county level and pick our birth certificates from their. As long as they follow the right criteria. I advise you to read the instructions very well about the civic documents.

Thanks

Namirembe,

you should have the long one processed

Thanks JONGE, I will have one processed

Thanks JONGE, I also love this forum to be active but it seems we Ugandans are weak at using computers and internet or there are very few Ugandans who were selected, bcs to be sincere they are no where , even at the Kenyan forum you can not see them. Ehh

Hello Namirembe,

it is because we are few who apply for the DV lottery and even those who succeed are not aware of this forum. For example I accidentally fell on this forum through google.

Hello Namirembe,

They consider A' Level and not O' Level. From what I have read, you need to have at least over 50% in most of the subjects and shouldn't have failed Mathematics or English at O' Level

OK. That is totally not true. DV has nothing to do with grades. Even those with straight 9s or Fs will still get the Visa for as long as you have all the requirements.
FYI: US resident, former DV winner and been answering lots of FAQs about DV lottery.
Congrats to those who won and America will be waiting for you.

My Interview Advise for DV 2014 Winners!

Congrats Winners,
I just wanted to highlight a few things that fail most Ugandans at the US Embassy in Nairobi.

* Spelling errors on our Legal documents***** This to me is the biggest challenge many Ugandans face. Most of our documents have wrong spellings of NAMES, DATES, TOWNS/CITY etc.
They pay so much attention to these things at the Embassy.
For example: I was put on Administrative Processing for 90 days because my Daughters name was spelled wrong on her Birth Certificate.
Most of you with these errors will go through Administrative processing, which literally means; they will have to verify your information before you are issued a Visa.
But rest assured that you will get that Visa once all your paperwork is straight. Just watch the Nairobi deadlines... I think they set it to 15th Sept now not 29th like back then.

* Marital Status**** OK. This one is straight forward, if you applied for the DV lottery as Single then that's it. If you applied as Married then that's what it will be. DONOT wait to win then change your status from Single to Married just coz you want to bring someone along. They know that trick now. Don't try it. They will disqualify you right away. Besides, even if you have proof, in most cases like if you married and also got a child between this time... they will only advise you to continue the process by yourself or just abandon the whole thing. REMEMBER: You can always go back and file for your spouse and child as soon as the Green card is issued.

* Education Vs Employment: My personal opinion is that don't use Employment as your Eligilibity pass because they will put you to Administrative processing right away. The process of verifying Employment in Uganda is long, the deadline will pass you. So use your Education certificates.
Tip: Just a small tip for you my friends: If you are interviewed by the American officials/consulates, don't talk too much. Answer just what they ask. The Embassy is a fan place as I call it.... The tension is always very high, as people believe any small mistake will get you denied. Usually it's better to just relax and wait your turn.

When my friend was being interviewed, they asked him why he wants to go to America, so I knew they would ask me the same Question. But guess what; my interview was only 7 minutes. They asked me if I was in touch with my contact in the US, questions about his location, will he pick us from the Airport.
To me it was very interesting talking to the official ofcourse not until she pulled my Daughters Birth Certificate and saw the wrong spelling. Then she told to I have to wait until that is verified, they will call me back before 90 days.

********************************************
I have lots of advise for you lucky winners..... you can email me for more on this.

DISCLAIMER: OK, Just so you guys know... this is my experience and for all those that I have helped. To be precise, I have been able to help 2 families and 4 singles. They all live here (US) now. Everyone's case is different, don't take my advice word for word. Keep up with the US Embassy website for updates and changes. Also watch the VISA BULLETIN so that you are ready for your interview on time.

Lastly, BE SMART.... Don't get scammmed in Nairobi while trying to fulfill your dream. Get there over the weekend if your interview is on Monday and tour the city. The place for Medical exams is different from the Embassy, so know these locations early enough.

Good Luck.... See You in America

Thanks for the information you submitted Lamozie, it will be very helpful if I get called for an interview however i sent the documents successfully to KCC in mid June 2013 and have heard nothing yet :-(. Queries to Kentucky indicate my application is with the Embassy in Nairobi.

In addition, I have tried to understand the Visa Bulletin in vain, how can I estimate my interview date from the confirmation number?

Congrats,
Be patient, you will be scheduled for the interview... The DV process is extremely organized, much as so many don't understand it. Just relax and watch the Bulletin, coz if yo' time is up on the bulletin and you haven't been contacted, you can call US Embassy Nairobi and they will verify accordingly.

Now the Visa Bulletin is simple:

JAN
AFRICA 19,400 Except:

Egypt: 11,700
Ethiopia: 13,000
Nigeria: 8,000

FEB
AFRICA 21,750 Except:
Egypt: 15,850
Ethiopia: 19,000
Nigeria: 8,700

Now in brief: Your case number should be below the Visa bulletin stated number for you to be current or active. Lets say your number is: 2014AF0019900.. This would mean your status becomes current in FEB and not JAN since the cutoff for JAN is 19400.

Remember, you will usually be contacted at worst 3 weeks before your interview date but it's always a month or earlier. In my case it was 5 weeks before the actual interview.

Good Luck and hope that information helps you....

Sincerely
Lam
