Hello all, I am seeking advice to help my cousin. She is originally from Guyana (South America). She came to the USA in November 2011 on a fiance visa with her son. She married her husband and now has a temporary green card. For the past several months, her husband has been treating her really bad. She can't even listen to music in her own house, etc. He just doesn't stop, verbally abusing her. Her teenage stepson pushes her and her husband does not say anything. She can no longer put up with his behavior. It's like, when she was still in Guyana he loved her soo much, but then when she came to the USA, he completely changed. It's so weird. I even met him and he was such a nice person. They live in Florida. She no longer wants to be with him because of how him and his 2 sons are mistreating her for no valid reason. What can she do? Can she leave? Please advise, as she is my family and do not want to see her in this position.

If my cousin leaves him and goes to North Carolina to stay with my mom (her aunt), what will happen, especially with her status? Will she still be able to work and go to school? etc....

I heard that they have to stay together for 2 years before she can leave him? Is this true?

Ah, so this is your real query :)
She can still keep her PR status and get an unconditional green card, even after divorcing him, as long as she can prove that she entered the marriage in good faith.
