Hi,

My wife will be eligible to file a N-400 at the end of this year. However, I recently did most of the taxes for 2011 (still waiting on some more forms) and we will owe a substantial amount of money (more then $1000) to the IRS for taxes this year instead of getting a refund. My question is, I looked into getting onto a payment plan with the IRS in order to pay the tax down, will being on a payment plan have any effect on my wife's citizenship application in a year if we are still on a payment plan? I do know that having back taxes to the federal government or the state, could result in a denial of the N-400.

Being on a payment plan with the IRS won't have any negative repercussions on your wife's application, as long as you continue making payments in accordance with the terms of your plan.
