The N400 and telling the truth

What happens if one is dishonest when filling in the N400. For instance if I am not writing all the days I was out of the country on some trips that exceed 6 months, what can happen? Will they find out before I even go to the interview? Will they check my background before even they schedule an appointment? If they find out that I dont tell the truth about trips I have done will they send back my application or confront me during the interview? Can they take away my green card, even if I own a business, have a house and pay taxes and have done so the last 5 years?


I have lived in the US during the last 5 years, but done some longer trips that exceed 6 months. One lasted close to 1.5 years. During all these 5 years I have paid my taxes
and owned a home and now lately a business also.

I know that I can wait a couple of more years so 5 years pass from my last long trip, but I want to know what would happen if I apply today.
 
If you have to ask this question you are not worthy of applying for naturalization since purposely not disclosing trips will go against your GMC determination.
 
If you had read the whole post you would have seen that I already know that. What I wonder is what possibly could happen if somebody really applied for naturalization even though they do not disclose some information.

If you lie on an N-400, they won't send your application back. Rather, you will be confronted during the interview and, at the very least, your N-400 application will be denied. It will also have significant negative effect on any future N-400 applications, particularly since you will have to disclose the fact that you had lied on an earlier N-400.
If they don't catch your lie and your N-400 is approved, you may still be de-naturalized later for concealing a material fact related to your eligibility for naturalization. Note that USCIS has access to the CBP records regarding your exists from/entries to the United States; although such records are not routinely requested by USCIS, they can be if the IO suspects that something is amiss.

Also, deliberately lying on an N-400 about some fact that is material to your eligibility for naturalization might possibly qualify as document fraud,

People have been denaturalized and deported for lying on their N-400 and failing to correct the lie at the interview. Others have been denied naturalization when the lie was discovered in the interview.
 
The OP should ponder over this question - Am I willing to throw away my chances of Citizenship AND those of my dependants by omission of facts,lying etc ? So one's action can have far reaching consequences, so think this through.

It is best to tell the truth, as the documentary evidence which the IO will have access to from multiple sources will state the same. If your version and what the IO sees vary you are bound to be questioned.
