What is the main reason people apply for the DV Lottery in a bid to leave their own country and go to the states?

Never want to leave Canada, just want to do it to get Dual Citizen eventually so I can be like...

"I have a US passport... F**k you border guard, let me in"

Don't want to be at the mercy of an arrogant moron with a fetish for power every time I want to visit friends and family.

The USA is a very exciting place to live. One will never run out of options or things to do. The food variety is awesome too. Amoung my favorites are Cheese cake Factory, Golden Coral, IHOP, Popeyes.......Also, I love the low prices on clothing, shoes etc...everything for that matter!!!!!

Can't you cross the border easily anyway? I can visit USA for 90 days at a time without visa as I'm from Ireland we can enter under ESTA.

Whether or not you're allowed in (and for how long) is still at the discretion of the CBP agent. You can be turned away with no justification on the officer's part. Every time you enter, you have to overcome immigrant presumption; not something that's very easy to do for a young, single college graduate, who in this economic climate could potentially be unemployed.

I am going down to San Francisco in a few weeks to visit some relatives and just chill out and do some pay under the table jobs lol.
Airports are a pain when you're a non US citizen coming into immigration on the other side, since for one there is the huge line of foreigners coming into the US which seems to take forever while the line for US citizens is somewhat non existent. I also hate how you have to answer stupid questions to please the immigration officer, crossing the border from Vancouver to Seattle for one can sometimes take 10-30 mins while other days it can take up to 5 hours.

For me I love northern California and the state Washington. I'm a winter guy so these two states are my favorite for winter sports and scenery and having a US passport can open doors for jobs and residing there for me. Other states don't seem to interest me that much, no different to other parts of Canada and they actually look lmuch more worse places to live in.

Yuck at Golden Coral and Popeyes, they are so cheap and gross lol XD

But I agree that Cheese cake Factory and Ihop for late night/early morning munching is good!

As far as I know if you have dual citizenship, you still need to pay tax to US if your working in Canada.

I don't have the issues with immigration as we can clear US customs and immigration in Ireland (Dublin & Shannon). Only place outside USA where you can do this last I heard. UK doesn't have this yet.

I can't believe u forgot the main one...TO BE A SUPER STAR (MOVIE STAR, ROCK STAR, MILLIONAIRE OR BILLIONAIRE) AND BE PART OF HISTORY

Where's - "Brainwashed by Hollywood" lol But seriously, apart from the typical "seeking better life" idea , I could name like a thousand rather peculiar reasons for wanting to leave, one of them is -don't like native tongue, sounds so ugly argh...

I believe many people in their minds makes the US to something even better than it is...Many who enter in the lottery come from socialist countries and believe they will have better jobs that pay more and at the same time forget that the system over here is not giving as many handouts as else where....that is why the first years are like a dream to them.

you will lose your green card if you live somewhere else

No you don't. Just because you have a green card DOES NOT mean you have to constantly stay in the US and can leave. Why do you think most Europeans never go onto US citizenship and keep their native countries citizenship? Why, because some parts of the year they want to go back home for a while and visit old family and friends.

You certainly can leave, but you have to LIVE in the US and not elsewhere. The determination is made based on number of days you stay outside the US by CBP each time you cross the border.
