A little advice

A Brit Abroad

New Member
 Hi all -
I'm sorry if these questions have been answered elsewhere, I searched the forum and could not find them

I have just become an American citizen by naturalization. I am about to sponsor my married british parents to move to the US. I have a few questions that I have searched for answers for and cannot find a clear answer.

1 / As I understand it - I submit I-130 for each of them to the appropriate service center, they send it on to the NVC; the NVC then sends me the I-864 and sends my parents in England the DS-230. We both complete our parts and send it back to NVC for them to forward on to the London Consulate. When the consulate gets it, they contact my parents for an interview date. Is this impression of the process correct?

2 / As for the I-864, I am really confused. I will sponsor them (I make around $29,000 per year. My husband can joint sponsor if needed, he makes $60,000) On part 3 of the I-864 there is a section for me to put in anybody else I am sponsoring but also says not to enter anybody listed on a separate visa petition, what do I put?!

3/ Still on I-864, I need to file one for each of my parents? Then if my husband joint sponsors, he has to fill one in for each of them too? So we have to submit FOUR altogether?!

4 / As they will be processed through the consulate in London, I do not need to file an Adjustment of Status for them, correct?

I am grateful of any questions that can be answered! Many thanks.

A1: You have the process down correct
A2: You complete 2 I-864s. Your spouse completes 2 I-864As.
A3: See above
A4: Correct, no AOS

Do you have any dependents that would put your household size above 4 (yourself, your husband, your parents)? If not, your $29000 is enough without your husband's income unless you're in Alaska or Hawaii. $27937 is the cutoff for a household size of 4.

One more thing....

I really appreciate the answers to my questions. Just one thing I am still not sure on, though I do not think I made my question clear to start with

On part 3 of the I-864 there is a section for me to put in anybody else I am sponsoring but also says not to enter anybody listed on a separate visa petition, what do I put?! I am sponsoring both my parents.

Thank you.
