Missing I-485 receipts, how to obtain them back?

Hi, my mom married my step-dad who is a USC and filed I-485 for herself and I.

The thing is that my mom and my step-dad trusted this lawyer very much and our cases have been dragging on for ~6 years.

We decided to stop using his services and wanted to check our case statuses, but we do not have the I-485 receipts and the receipt numbers for our I-485's. We have little receipts that you would get from a shopping mall that have our names and I-485's on it. My mom paid via money order.

Can we file an InfoPass appointment and request our I-485 receipts? We have our A#'s and SSN's, what else would be needed?

Also, my mom received a Notice of Action to get her biometrics done last year, but that also does not have her I-485's receipt number on it, does anyone know why this is?

Thank you very much.

The field "Application number" on the fingerprint notice should have a 13-character code, and that is the I-485 receipt number. If that is blank, it's very strange.

Why don't you get the documents from the lawyer? He is obligated to give them to you. If he is refusing, report him to your state's bar association.

Yes, the field for Application Number is blank for my mom's I-797C NOA.

The problem is that the lawyer is a good friend of my step-dad, he actually helped him with the immigration process when my step-dad first came to the US.

But is there any reason why the Application Number would be blank? USCIS error?

Can we still get replacements and the receipt numbers for our applications through InfoPass?

Thanks.

Is he refusing to provide the papers, or are you and your mother refusing to ask him?

Probably.

I don't know if you'll get a replacement receipt, but they should be able to tell you the receipt numbers.

Thank you Jackolantern for the help, what should we show them?

A#, SSN's, ID's, the little payment receipt that has our names on it? Is there anything else? We're gonna go to the appointment on Wednesday this week.

Also, bring your passports, I-94's, and your fingerprint notices.

That "little payment receipt" is useless for the Infopass visit if it was printed by your lawyer.

You haven't answered the question, so I take it you and your mother are afraid to ask the lawyer for the I-485 papers, it's not the lawyer who is refusing to hand them over.

Your mother and you should ask the I-485 filing receipt from the lawyer who filed I-485.
For Fingerprinting your mother don’t need I-485 receipt
