Hi. I have a pending I-485 case(green card through marriage),but i since i had a j1 visa i have not been able to get it after 2.5 years yet.I was subject to 2-year home residency requirement of j1 visa. my wife has left me recently and is going to get divorce after 3 years of living together. Can i apply for asylum even after the one year rule? what should i do?i seriously have fear of persecution based on religion and political grounds. I don't know what to do. your advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you entered the marriage in a good faith then you may still be eligible to get LPR status through marriage even if she left you. I don't think asylum is an option for you.
