OCI For US Citizen Child Born and Currently Living in India

Has anyone here done OCI processing for a US Citizen child born & currently living in India (i.e., parents of child are USC and child got USC on birth in India)?

If yes, did you first need to get a Indian visa for the child (even though child is already in India) before applying for OCI?

At the time of child birth what was parents’ status in US? If parents were US citizens then child is US citizen and you were supposed to registrar child birth with US consulate in India. You have not posted if child has US passport.
Did the child got Indian mucipality birth certificate? if answer is yes that can create problems.

OP,
I don't mean to hijack the thread.....

Ginnu,
That is a critical piece of paperwork that you mentioned. Thanks for sharing.

Just for information, and benefit of everyone, if
1. The parents were naturalized USC
2. Settled in India
3. Child born in India

What might be the appropriate steps?
1. Hospital records the birth.
2. Don't create any municipal records.
3. Register with the nearest US consulate. Is there a time limit for this registration?
4. Apply for US PP.
5. Any other docs that one can process in US consulate (SSN et al)?

Thanks again for your insights...

Ginnu,
That is a critical piece of paperwork that you mentioned. Thanks for sharing.

Just for information, and benefit of everyone, if
1. The parents were naturalized USC
2. Settled in India
3. Child born in India

What might be the appropriate steps?
1. Hospital records the birth.
------------------Get the Hospital record with your name as Father of child as on your US passport and your wife name as on her US passport (she is Mother). Hospital also write Child full name.
2. Don't create any municipal records.
-------
3. Register with the nearest US consulate. Is there a time limit for this registration?
------------------ Go to consulate with your passport and wife passport, ID of both copy of marriage certificate (you and your wife may have to write your SSN on form) and hospital birth record and Register the birth of child with consulate or US embassy. They will give you form and provide instructions. You can call the consulate and they have phone number for US citizens listed on US consulate site.
4. Apply for US PP.
------------------Read the Below link

5. Any other docs that one can process in US consulate (SSN et al)?
-------------------Consulate officer will give you form and full info.

Thanks again for your insights...
-------------------- The American Citizen Services section accepts applications for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad by appointment only.Iimmediately after baby is born, you need to take the "long-form" birth certificate, hospital records, baby, photos, your proof of US citizenship to the nearest US consulate and file a report of birth to an American citizen while abroad, and get baby's US passport. Then you apply for a Social Security number. Be sure you do this promptly! Until you register, baby's rights are not really protected.

Read the below Link it has info for you:

Post the update for others once you visit US consulate.

As always, thanks for the detailed reply Ginnu. Much appreciated.
Let us wait for OP to post his experience...

Good luck and God bless!!!
