Hi,

I have a friend who has his interview coming up in october and does not have any issues, but just noticed that last year when he was looking for a job, he sent his resume to a staffing agency and they mistakenly put his resume as a US citizen. (To his shock, while googling his name online for fun, he saw the resume that had his name as a US citizen)

What should he do?

I told him to explain the mistake and see how it falls.

What do you people think he should do?

It is not an issue.
Declaring USC when you are is mostly an issue when it is done with government agencies and there is a benefit derived (voting for example). He should not volunteer unless he filed some official form (bank, credit card, SSN, DMV). If asked, he should explain the resume as a mistake.

Bob,

He already had a GC and there was no reason for him to put USC on his resume, but the Staffing agency did unknown to him.

He did not get a job through them however and did not know about this till a few days ago when he was just googling his name and them saw his resume online (from a year ago) and it has USC to his name ...yes on the online resume.

he said he called the staffing agency but they are out of business.

I wouldn't worry about it since he was never employed by them. Had he been employed by them and filled out I-9 indicating USC, then it could be an issue.

Bob and Sanjo,

Thanks.

I will tell the dude not to bring it up at all unless he is asked about it and them tell them it was a mistake...He has been freaking out and been depressed about the whole thing and also cos the resume is still online and he can't remove it or do anything about it.

Well..as far as I know..he said the resume people have not responded and they told him they are out of business and there is nothing they can do about it.

how can he get google to remove it?

Thanks Guys..

I will just tell him to google it and find out by himself....he should be able to do that.

thanks a lot guys

First have him find out what site is hosting it. Then contact site administrators directly.
If it's cached by Google, have him search Google on how to remove it.
