Need to get my husband green card - but can he sponsor himself?

My husband and I live in the UK. I grew up in the States and moved here 14 years ago - met him, married, had two kids, etc. We now want to move to the States later this year. I understand that he's supposed to have someone sponsor him. However, he gets paid royalties now from an American company. He will continue to receive these royalties and that is what we will live off of when we move to the States (it's a decent income for a family of four). I'll eventually get a job but not immediately. When we apply for his Green Card, can he show them that he gets this money each month and be satisfied with that? I can't sponsor him because I don't have any money and we don't know anyone who could sponsor him. Thanks!

You have to sponsor (file an I-130) him as the spouse of the US citizen. You wil also need to prove to the consulate that you are actively in the proces of setting up domicile in the US. You will also need to file an I-864 (financial sponsorship) for him, even if you have zero income. Then you also need to find a financial co-sponsor, or show enough assets to meet the financial requirements. Your assets need to be 5 times the income requirement.

I can't sponsor him because I don't have any money and we don't know anyone who could sponsor him.

Thanks, Triple. 'Your assets need to be 5 times the income requirement.' How much are we talking about exactly? He might have this.

They have to be your assets or joint, but not his exclusive assets. Assuming your kids are US citizens, we are looking at 5 times $18K.
