What countries are Eligible for Asylee visas, and what do you need to prove, also can one apply for it even if you have been in the USA for a long time?
 
Anyone can apply for asylum. One can apply for asylum within one year of entering the US. There are a few exceptions to the one year filing deadline.

You will need to prove to USCIS's satisfaction that circumstances in your COP have changed drastically after your one year was up in the US. This will be on top of the burden of proof that your life is in danger if you move back to your COP. What COP are we talking about here?

I am originally from South Africa, and that country is going downhill very fast, but to prove that I am in danger might not be so easy comparing to other countries.
 
"Going downhill very fast" is not a basis for asylum. You need established proof that you face persecution and/or death if you are back in South Africa. Countries like New Zealand, Australia and Canada have points based immigration for professionals. Did you consider these as alternatives?

Thanks for your time, it is much appreciated... I have applied for permanent residency in Australia as a skilled worker. I still have about 5 years left in the USA, but just wanted to look at all options since I won't be going back to SA...
 
Boer, You'll face an uphill batlle to convince the authorities. There was a South African bloke who recently successfully applied for asylum in Canada. The SA authorites was outraged and requestd a review of his case but I dont know what has happened since. I am a South African living in Australia and can give some advice if you require it. At the moment the skilled visa route is a good option if you qualify - the downside is that the process takes quite long, but then again you have 5 years so that should not be a problem for you.
