Wife to citizen won Dv2010

Hi, I am a US citizen an I met my wife 2 years ago, I had planned to do a K1 fiance visa in May 09 but then she got her 1st NL so we decided to wait on her number, meanwhile we still planned to marry in Jan "10". Now in march we are married an stil waiting for her number to become current wich should be May or june. We had contacted KCC they told us the marriage will not affect her status, my question is, Can someone clarify on this? also will the marriage certificate be enough for support or should I fill I-134?

Have been reading a lot of the threads an its really helpin me understand how DV works Thanks for all the info
 
I do not think your marriage certificate is enough. Fill out an I-134 and you should be fine.
if she has a lot of her own funds she can also use those or a job offer in the US.

In her package she will find what it is exactly that she needs. Take what they ask for and all is fine.

I take it that she already informed her changed status of marriage and send the copy with the marriage certificate to KCC (or her country's embassy or consulate). Right?

Marriage certificate is not recognised as a means of support, she needs to show her own funds or an affidavit of support from you/someone she knew in the US and who is a citizen/permanent resident holder.

We contacted them thru phone, can we email it to them or should it be post? what do we send them to notify about the marriage? which copy do we need to send? she has copies of her original NL. sorry for so many questions.

Complete the form DS-230 for both of you updating your marital status together with a copy of your marriage certificate and send these by post to KCC before your interview is schedule.
 
what do you mean "DS-230" for both of them? the guy is a US citizen, and DS-230 is an application for an immigrant visa. He doesn't need it and can't use it.

The girl will need to bring an updated DS-230 and DSP-122 to the interview, an original marriage certificate + a copy, all the rest of the documents as required. An affidavit of support wouldn't hurt. It's best to have an original, but a faxed copy may do.

Her immigrant visa and her GC will be issued in her maiden name, of course. After you get married, you can pay a bit of money and change the name on her GC, or you can wait till she becomes a citizen in about 3 years and change her name at the citizenship interview for free.

You are right, I read something in this forum and during my reply it came to my mind.

If an interview has not been scheduled, then it's expedient to inform KCC with an updated DS-230. If the interview is scheduled then she should inform the consulate where she is scheduled to have her interview. It's not advisable to just walk in to the interview to show your new marital status.

I am on the same page with ammeck09, a colleague of mine did just what ammeck advised in 2007 and they were issued a visa without stress. I advise she do the same and of course the husband is a citizen, which invariably makes things eassier.
 
I would call my embassy/consulate and ask them what they need and in what form.
I had to send all forms to the consulate BEFORE the interview! (cover letter stating change of status, copy of the international marriage certificate and DS 230)

Its not enough to say, well someone on a forum did this years ago, so I will too.
Call them, they are very nice and since you married a citizen its all fine, they are representing his country right :-)
 
Thank you for all the info, I take it that we can go online and download the necessary forms we need an refill them out the updated way? and then either send them to KCC or take to interview or as directed by KCC
 
if her case is still at KCC you send them to KCC, if not, you send her updated file to her countries embassy/consulate (KCC will tell you if its not there anymore, mine wasn't at KCC anymore as they send it way before your (wife's) number becomes current. Since her marital status changed (and you do not need to be added to here case) you send in an updated DS230 and the copy of the international marriage certificate.

As preparation for the actual interview you can already provide I-134, but what she needs for the interview is all in the package she'll receive.

So should we wait to change everything to her married name til we get to US, green card, social security, or try to change it before her interview? if we did that, we would need to change her passport and name on case. I will also be in touch with the embassy, I wanted to hear anyone's experience on this. Thank you
 
she can keep her own name as well, is very common in the US

If she plans to change it, I would do it now, but won't her maiden name still be on all those papers anyway?
