Hi Forum Members
Please help me with this question: My son, 3 yrs old (born in India) accquired US Citizenship after I got naturalized. I am trying to apply for his PIO card and do not understand what to fill in for Line N0. 10 on the PIO application form (NY COnsulate).
It is for passport details and I am confused if it refers to Indian passport or his new US passport.
thanks in advance!

It refers to his US passport. Why are you applying for a PIO card? He is eligible for a OCI card which is much better longer term.

Thanks!

Thanks much, nkm-oct23!
I know, OCI is better then PIO but my wife is not ready to listen.. from some of her friends she heard about security thing and she does not want to listen to me. And our son is only 3 yrs old...he needing security etc is still long way :)
thx!

What security is she talking about? Visa 2 month you mean
BTW OCI is superset of PIO only drawback is OCI takes more time to get processed
and it is still cheaper - work as per your needs - my daughter was in PIO for couple of years and I 'am converting to OCI along with my application

----------------------Does she have ear problem?:)
from some of her friends she heard about security thing
------ tell her to be away from her friends for few days.
and she does not want to listen to me.
------ that is her problem if she does not want correct info.
And our son is only 3 yrs old...he needing security etc is still long way :)

What security? tell her he will not depend on her Social security and does not want any money from Social Security.:)
Apply for OCI it is much better then PIO and OCI is for life.thx!

I am not sure if PIO requires your son to report to the police authorities every month if staying more than 180 days. OCI doesn't require him to report to the police authorities. OCI is better than PIO. I have no problems with security as I traveled to India using my OCI recently. My relative's son (same age as your son) has no problem with security. Don't let your wife listen to some of her friends. You will be fine. if you apply for OCI for your son and visit India after OCI approval, all you have to do is to bring his US passport with U stamp and his OCI booklet. That's all. :)

Documents to be sent...?

Thanks all for the response. I fully understand CGI is the best but it is as tough convinving some ppl as are the procedure with Indian consulates.
If I go ahead with applying PIO for my 3 yrs old (who is born in India) and acquired US citizenship after I became USC, what are the documents I should be sending in?
1. Application itself in Duplicate.
2. Kids US passport - original and notarized copies
3. Kids Indian passport - original and notarized copies. (they might cancel and return the Indian PP)
4. Notarized copy of kids birth-certificate.
5. 4 photos and application fee.

Do I need to send parents passport copies too?
Also anything else that I need to send along?

Thanks much for all the help!

---- it is OCI not CGI. CGI=Consulate General of India

---------------------- go to Indian conulate site where you want to Send PIO application and read the requirements.

thanks!!!

Thanks much, Ginnu! My fault, it should have been OCI.

I did read on the CGI NY website I think they have just assumed that if the applicant is minor, it is US born kid. But this site and all members have been a great help in resolving doubts!
