Calling USCIS -- On behalf of Petitioner

Can we call to USCIS customer service and pretend as petitioner and try to get info from IO ?

One of my friend did that but unfortunately IO was a lady and she asked if this is for himself (actually it's for his wife and form she filed is N-400), he replied yes instead of clear NO !!!
(He did this because his wife is at work during normal business hours, so he just want to find out info, for her)

IO said further that 'over here it shows FEMALE...... candidate'
Than,
IO: what kind of form did you file with USCIS ? Than he replied his wife petitioned for himself. (Although it's the case of his wife's N-400).
IO: so is your wife there with you ? He said NO, and IO told him that she can't give out information to him unless his wife is there......please call us back.....bla bla bla.......

Que: Question is he is frightened that due to his baffleness ... does that IO had put any remarks on his wife's N-400 case in the online system that will further delay the case ? He offered IO to get his wife on the phone, but later he said he will just ask his wife to call back since she is at work.
I asked him what was her reaction at the end when he ended call......He said....she sounded bit surprised but said don't hesitate to call us back if you have any question ...Also, The fact is IO was not able to see the form no. at that time.....since she asking him about the form no. that he filed.

Anyone has similar experience........

You should not act as someone else. They would not answer questions about a spouse once they know you are not the spouse.

I called them during the good old days when processing was really really really slow, told them it was for my wife ... and if you see my signature, her file was lost and rebuilt over a long period, so it had something to do with such a crisis or a denied EAD or a denied parole. I had my wife ready at home to take a call, but not willing to wait 30 minutes on the phone while we were in hold. When I talked to the INS (more than once), they would not give me 10 seconds to connect a second call and get her on-line. Their stand was either she was on the call and able to ask her question, or she was not. And I had no business asking questions on her behalf.

However, I do not think they will record such a thing in their systems. I am sure they are used to people calling for their spouses, and it is understandable, although mis-representation is not.

Well you are absolutely right about last line,

But it's also true that she didn't identify the form No. ........ she was asking him about what form did you file, did your spouse petitioned for you ? I just hope he gets some change in his wife's online status soon.

No, the IO wouldn't put remarks from a call in the online system to further delay a case. You can assure him he's fine and that he's being a little paranoid.
