I am happy to let you all know that I became a proud citizen of USA, yesterday.

I would like to share my experience here at Fairfax DO.

My appointment was at 09:20 AM. I gave my interview letter at the reception at 09:00 AM
and was told to wait in the lobby and someone will call for the interview. I joined others in the lobby. There were already a lot of people waiting for their turn.

My name was called by a lady(the interviewer) around 09:45 AM. I walked in along with her into her room and were asked to take a seat. After that she asked me to raise my hand and .....blah...
She asked for my passport, green card and Driving License.
She went through my N400. She asked me if I travelled outside US in 2008/2009. She asked me about current profession.
She asks me if I am ready to take the test and I said YES.

She asked me the following Qs while going through my A-File(Oh boy. that's about two or three inches thick).
Q.1) What does the President's Cabinet do?...i answered correctly
(at this time she appeared to be looking for something specific in the A-File. )
Q.2) How many justices are on the Supreme Court?...i answered correctly
(at this time she's still scanning my A-File. I was asking myself "what data is that bothering her ?" )
Q.3) If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?...i answered correctly
(at this time, she stopped at a page in my A-File and took a small sticky note and put it on that page. i didn't get a proper view of what page she's looking at..)
Q.4) We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years?...i answered correctly
(at this time, she went back to my N400 and trying to compare with something in the A-File page with the sticky note. I raised my head a little to see what page she's looking at :-) It turned out to be my Birth certificate.)
Q.5) What did the Declaration of Independence do?...i answered correctly
Q.6) Name one branch or part of the government. ?...i answered correctly

Looks like she's happy with everything in the N400.

Reading test: She pulls a page with three lines on it and asked to read one line which says
"Name one country on the south of the U.S"

Writing test: asked to write "Mexico is on the south of the U.S"

She says "You passed the tests" and Congratulations! :)
(at this point i was hoping her to say i will be having the same day oath)

Now she says, well you are approved for citizenship BUT ...( i was saying to myself uh oh a "BUT" is not what i want to hear after Congratulations! )

She says the stamps(whatever that/those means) are in a SAFE and she forgot the keys to the SAFE at home. And she cannot send me for same day oath. But she also said that they are trying to find an alternative/backup key to the SAFE and gave an option to wait in the lobby.
I told her i took the day off anyway, so i'll wait in the lobby.
She walked me out of the room into the lobby(and tells me again that she cannot guarantee same day oath if she can't find the key).

Now the time is 09:56 AM. So, it took just about 10 minutes for the whole interview process.

Now starts the worst part of waiting for the oath letter...:( There were six other folks too in the lobby waiting like me for the oath letters.

After TWO hours :( of boring time, she comes and gives the Good News that we will be having our oath at 1 PM and gave us oath letter/form...YAY !!! :D

I immediately went out to eat something as i was hungry.
Came back at 12:45 pm and waited in the oath ceremony registration(sort of) lobby. After a while, Submitted the letter/form for the oath at the counter and received the seat number and a packet (it has an american flag, the oath, pledge of allegiance and a booklet).
Entered the oath ceremony room at 1:15PM. More waiting....waited for an hour or so..
The oath ceremony started at 2:20 PM and ended by 3PM.
Took my CITIZENSHIP certificate and left the place.Happy Ending. :)

I will end my post with a thanks to everyone and also wish everyone in waiting my "BEST WISHES"

Thank You Huracan, wantmygcnow, PerpetualGC and Risah

That's right PerpetualGC. Under three months.
I observed in these forums that most applications in Fairfax DO are taking less than three months. Hence I mailed my application about 75 days before my 5-Year anniversary of my GC. And everything worked as per the plan.

I did see a notice in the lobby in Fairfax DO which reads "Children must always be under parent's/guardian supervision"

Also, I saw one kid too in the lobby.

But if you can leave them at a day care or could arrange for a baby sitter, that would be the best idea.
