Hello

I have a question about passport. I am still going through the process, and hoping that I will get an Interview real soon. However I have a dilemma or rather a question because I plan on travelling once I receive the conditional green card. My question is, am I supposed to keep my passport after a receive the GC, and also, my passport is scheduled to expire in june. Should I renew it from my home country or do i get a passport from USA. I'm just lost and need your help.

Thanx in advance

The GC is an entry document into the US. If you enter another country you must show your passport (except some countries which allow US LPR enter based on LPR status).

So for example, if you go to your country of citizenship, you will need it to enter that country. When returning to the US you would produce your GC to the CBP officer at the POE.

If your country has a consulate in the US, you should be able to renew your passport within the US. But it probably will cost more than renewing it in your own country.

The GC is sufficient to enter the US even if you don't have a passport, and you are not required to have a valid passport to live in the US as a conditional permanent resident. However, most other countries you visit will require a passport (or an acceptable alternative, like a refugee travel document) to land in their country and possibly to board a flight to the US.

Like other have said, GC is not a passport.
You need a passport to travel.
It is advised to have a passport with at least 6 month of validity in order to travel.
Since yours is going to expire in June, you should renew it NOW.
Check the consulate or embassy of your home country here in the US, they can probably renew your passport when you are in the US, but it can take months. So do it now.

Thank you guys for your timely response. I do have a consulate that I can consult while I'm still here, But since I might be going home before it expires, I will try to get it sorted out there.

Again, I apprecate all your's support and help.
