Problem after problem... failure to appear in court

Okay, this is really crazy... I forgot to mention on my application that I got a ticket for an illegal left turn in aug/08.... I figured I would call the DMV to see if I can obtain a record that it's cleared up. (this is CA DMV, I got the ticket the day I was moving out of the state)

I called and they said my license is on hold for a failure to appear in court... I panicked! This is all I need a month before my interview and being overseas... So after many calls I get through to the courthouse and they say they see that I paid it in time over the phone, and basically I chose the option of court-by-mail.. (or appeal by mail) and they never received my appeal (I sent it from overseas - Moldova to be exact, no wonder) so they somehow marked it as failed to appear in court by mistake (bec. I paid, it would be irrelevant)

So I spoke to the court clerk and she immediately fixed it and cleared things up. I convinced her to send me some documentation of this...

I then called the DMV and they also saw that it was all cleared up, but they can't send me a DMV record because that takes 4-6 weeks and I need to mail in a request (but I'm overseas)....

What do you think, will the paper from the court be enough? is there any reason they would require me to bring in a DMV record?

Would the interviewing officer have access to the latest DMV records, or will they be using a record a month old?

Is there anything else I need for this ticket?

Thanks

Usually, court certified dispositions are good enough.

Why can't you mail in a request from overseas?

Regarding what the IOs can see, you never know.

Warning signs with your case:
Suspension of license
Ticket on last day of residency (?)
And are you filing when living abroad?

If I were an IO, I would now have a line of questioning.

If I were in your shoes, I will get all my paperwork in hand in time for interview, and if I can not, postpone the interview until I can get these together.

Chaimdan, the first thing you need to remember to not go on about details to the interviewing officer UNLESS asked!

Now that you have not listed this ticket, when it comes to this question during your interview just mention it. And if asked show the documents. Don't panic, since you cleared it up now.

And now get your arse back to u.s so you are not stuck in a snowstorm in moldova and miss your interview.

I fully agree with sanjoseaug20, there are some "red flags" in this case, i were you would not go to interview before collecting the support documents.

I moved to a different state and I applied for citizenship there

I am not living abroad, I'm hear on temporary mission (humanitarian/religious) of maximum 3 months at a time. then always returned to my home in the states... (I am not visiting my home country....)

All paperwork is american.. banks, tax docs, credit cards and the like. our youngest was born there a year ago...

I don't think I should be in the bad...

It's kind of late to order DMV record because mailing takes over a month to reach the states, and their processing in 6 weeks or so, so it's not practical. But I hope the court paper should be enough.

Do you guys think a confirmation of selective service registration by fax should be sufficient?

And lastly, the interview letter says to bring certified copies of kids born in US... do I need that if I bring originals along or do they want to keep them?

Thanks

Per USCIS instructions, documentation is not required for minor traffic tickets under $500. There's a remote possibility that the IO may ask for proof of payment, but you're not expected to get court certified documents for minor citations.

Faxed selective service letter is fine.

Bring original birth certificates of kids to interview. Ask them to make a copy if they need one..you're not expected to give them originals.

What does the court paper say? That the ticket was paid? Or does it include the (erroneous) license suspension issue?

Given that the license suspension was a clerical mistake, not a legitimate penalty, avoid mentioning that aspect to the interviewer. Just say you got a ticket for an illegal turn, and that you paid it.

Not yet sure what it says, they just mailed it out yesterday...

I'll avoid delving into any unnecessary information...
