Here is the situation: I need proof of resident status asap due to loans for school. My application was approved last week and card was ordered per cris email. Can I walk-in and ask for a stamp in my passport as proof of my status. Has anyone done this?
It really depends. The I-551 stamp is at the discretion of the IO. The unwritten rule for giving you the stamp is "emergency travel". You can try your luck but you maybe better off waiting it out for about a week for your GC to arrive in the mail
The card usually arrives within 1-2 weeks after the "card production ordered" email. They are generally unwilling to give you an I-551 stamp if it is less than 30 days since card production.
I decided to wait it out. A second "card production" email was sent on Dec 16th. Is this common to happen? Now I wonder if it's 1-2 weeks from the 11th or the 16th?
You should get it early this week, hopefully before Christmas . The second card production ordered email usually occurs when the card is ready to be mailed.
