Q related to application for US passport

Hi, guys.

My oath is scheduled for next week. I intend applying for my US passport, soonafter. However, I have a q - because the DOB on my DL (a copy of which will go to the State Dept.) is different from what will appear on my Nat. certificate.

What do you think - should I first go to the DMV, and have a new DL issued (corresponding to what's on the Nat. certificate)? If so, will the DMV accept a Nat. certificate (to make changes to DOB in their system), or will they insist on a US passport?

Or, should I not worry, and just send my DL, as is?

Thanks, guys.

They at the oath ceremony will not ask for your driver license -- they may ask for it. it is rarely. they mostly ask for your passport, green card, and your oath appointment letter. Birth certificate or affidavit letter would be sufficient.

If you insist on updating your DL, you should go to the DMV and get it done.

I had not thought abt applying right at the ceremony. Are you then suggesting that I might have an easier time if I apply for my US passport, right then?

Thanks.

oh about applying for US passport. I don't remember showing my DL to the post office agents when I applied for my US passport. They probably will ask for your DL, but go ahead to update your DL to avoid the confusion.

Didn't the officer at the interview compared your DOB on your license against your GC?

I would suggest you fix it. Take your GC and they will fix your DL.

Thank you for replying.

Are you sure the DMV accepts the Perm. Resident card? I thought they only accepted Birth certificates, a Social security card, or US passport.

You can show your PERM Resident CARd to fix your DOB. Also it proves a legal status as required by the REAL ID BILL. Depends on which state you are in.

Go to DMV, show them your current license. Explain to them that your DOB is wrong. They will ask for a proof..show your GC and PASSPORT and you should be ok. They will let you keep the old license to show and fix at other places(like banks etc). I know this because I had the same problem last year. LONG time ago, I had put 05/09(in my drivers license...using the rest of the world's way of writing dates and my actual BDAY is Sep 05 but my drivers license showed May 9th ;)....

Fixed it with a simple trip to the DMV with a GC and a passport.

My passport won't help because it is also in error (showing the same DOB as on the DL). The error is because the authorities in India issued passport based on High school certificate - whereas USCIS was more practical/accurate in referring to the Birth certificate (also issued from India) during Adjustment of Status. The discrepancy, essentially is limited to year of birth.
